Vehicle Description
Having fond remembrances of these awesome little cars from my high school days, I found this little guy a couple months ago. It wasn't running right after the previous owner (who used it as a commuter for 20 years!) washed the engine compartment. So after several attempts at fixing the problem, and improving the situation to the point that it is quite driveable, I'm throwing in the towel...got too many projects and I just need to move on.
That said, I cleaned it all up, put some new shocks on the rear, a new alternator, a set of WRX seats in it and gave it a good once over to make sure all is well. It already had a new cap and plugs, fuel pump and filter. I also checked the timing belt (good shape) and adjusted the ignition timing.
What it needs is a rebuilt carburetor, available on Ebay for $250. If you give me my asking price I'll install it for you. Could certainly use some tires as well, about $25 each at Walmart...or any number of other places.
Do those two things and you have a solid little high-mileage commuter...really high mileage--these High Fuel models were rated at around 56 mpg hwy, and have been known to do over 60!
It's not perfect, but a very serviceable example of one of the coolest, most efficient little cars ever made. Come take a look and see what you think. It does have a salvage title, which was not from any damage, but from the impound situation where the previous owner purchased it.
Feel free to give me a call and come take a look. These are getting hard to find!
