Vehicle Description
1948 Chevy 1.5 ton with PTO hydraulic dump bed. This pickup has been in my family for 40 years and was originally delivered to a farm near Klamath Falls. The dump bed is original, it was placed on the new chassis and manufactured by Schetky Equipment in Portland, Oregon. Schetky Equipment is making school busses in Portland.
The bed is 92.5” x 144”.
When my father bought it in 1984 from the original owner it had ~35,000 miles. These were original miles and was verifiable by the remarkably pristine interior. Unfortunately time, storage conditions, and my dad’s less than ideal care took a toll.
That said it is complete, unrestored, original paint, nearly rust free and exactly the place you want to start a proper restoration or preservation project. It starts with no issues, and runs and is drivable. The brakes work but could use some care.
New fuel pump, new battery and new ignition coil were all recently installed.
The door cards, headliner and window tracks all need replacing, the seat cover is sun damaged on the back, but the seat bottom is original upholstery and actually in good shape. Fortunately all these interior parts are easily available via a number of reproduction parts houses on line. These trucks are popular and the engine and it variants remained available until at least the 1970’s, so lots of easy parts.
