Vehicle Description
Great classic car, $6000 OBO. Currently registered. Runs, drives, stops, I just don't have the time to continue restoration. I drive this thing everywhere. Gotta see it in person. Lots of history with these Hudson "stepdowns". They were ahead of their time and continue to be very dependable. Hudson owners are known for driving their cars to shows, not trailering them. List of things I've done:
- Engine: 308 CID inline 6. Runs perfectly. I'm told the original engine threw a rod and current engine was installed from 1954 donor.
- Transmission: Original GM 2 speed Powerglide. Seems to work just fine highway and cross town. Could probably use fluid change and band adjustment. I did buy filter and pan gasket, but haven't done the maintenance.
- Electrical system: converted to 12 volts, GM alternator. New wire harness throughout.
- upgraded to Halogen headlights
- upgraded to MSD ignition, no points to mess with.
- Rebuilt and balanced twin single barrel carbs.
- Rebuilt fuel/vacuum pump (combined unit)
- Fuel tank (blasted inside and sealed. New sending unit. Fresh paint on exterior of tank.
- Front brakes: upgraded to front disc brake system.
- Rear brakes: replaced shoes/drums.
- Starter: upgraded to high torque 12 volt.
- Exhaust: Headers installed.
- (4) new tires (have rim for the spare, but no tire on it).
- new hubcaps
- Suspension: all new shocks, bushings. Antisway bar upgraded from thin little thing to about 1" diameter. Greatly improved handling.
Major things that need to be done:
- Paint: you see surface rust in photos. There are only two spots with holes (hood and small hole worn through front passenger floorboard).
- Interior: Dash is great condition and original. All other parts of interior need restoration. (Absolutely drivable, but not exactly pretty at the moment).
- Windshield wiper system: vacuum motor works, but cable system needs new cable routed.
Probably forgetting a ton of stuff. If you have questions ask.
All reasonable offers entertained. Stop out, take a look, make an offer. Great car to drive (which you can do before purchase). Cruises along on highways as well as side streets.
