Vehicle Description
By the start of the 1960’s, the Cadillac division of General Motors was firmly established as one of America’s top luxury vehicle manufacturers. The over-the-top styling cues of the latter part of the previous decade had passed from the new car showrooms of the day, replaced by designs that were much more refined and exuded a sense of simplistic elegance.
In keeping with their history, Cadillac continued to be at the forefront in terms of style and luxury. The Series 62 in 1962 was offered in a variety of body styles with two and four doors, including a two-door convertible. Among the new amenities was an available fully automatic heating and air conditioning system. Mechanical improvements included offering a three-speed turbo hydramatic transmission for the first time, which would remain one of the standards of the entire GM line for many years. From a safety perspective the first two reservoir brake master cylinder was offered, a full six years before they were mandated by the federal government.
This 1962 Cadillac Series 62 convertible, built the second week of July 1962, is a fine example of unrestored elegance. Finished in Maize (paint code 45) with a white top and light two-tone leather interior which seats five comfortably, the front bucket seats show the slight wear one would expect from this vintage of vehicle. All other interior appointments show similar wear but are very presentable. Power comes from a powerful 390 cubic inch engine mated to the new-style three speed automatic transmission. Additional options include power steering, power brakes, power windows and power seat, all items one would expect to find in an early 60’s Caddy! At the other end of the vehicle, a cavernous trunk provides a wealth of space for storage. This vehicle has been in the portfolio of a major midwestern collector for almost 20 years and stored in a humidity-controlled environment. While not a perfect car cosmetically, it is a very presentable driver and would make a fantastic parade car or tour vehicle. Very recent maintenance has been performed on the brakes and fuel system.
