Vehicle Description
Restored in 2014 with less than 50,000 original miles on the odometer, mechanically it received a new clutch, clutch slave cylinder, oil cooler, new cooling fan, radiator hoses, braided brake hoses, braided fuel hoses, a full stainless-steel exhaust and header, 60-spoke chrome knockoff wire wheels with MG emblems and Dunlop Tires. The original dual 6V battery setup has been swapped for a single 26R 12V. The interior refresh included new interior kick panels, chrome buckled lap belts, interior door handles, decorative sill plates, new seats, and new black loop carpeting. The car was completely stripped to bare metal, any required repairs were properly made with metal, and it was painted in the original tartan red color with 2-stage paint. During this time, all the rubber seals were replaced, halogen sealed beam headlamps, chrome bullet mirrors, and a new windshield were installed. In 2016 the ignition was upgraded to an electronic Pertronix, a new starter was installed, the carbs were rebuilt, the front disc brakes received new calipers, the front suspension received new bushings, and new U-joints for the rack and pinion steering were installed.
This car is meant to be enjoyed. The original UK high compression motor provides plenty of power to race around the city and tear up some backroads. I have owned it for roughly a year and have put approximately 5000 miles on it. It has never left me stranded and starts up every time in single digit temps all the way to triple digits here in Texas. I have taken it on multiple 3+ hour trips without worry. At the time of purchase, I sent the car to London Auto in Virginia where a tune-up was performed, i.e. oil change and filter, plugs, carb tune, and a new fan shroud and electric fan were installed. Driven hard in the heat, temps remain below 212F.
Bad: 1-speed wipers work intermittently; wiper motor probably needs to be rebuilt or cleaned. The speedometer is lively and tends to be + / – 20mph of actual speed. A new speedometer cable from Moss Motors is $19, I have just been using a GPS bicycle computer for accurate speeds and use 3m Velcro tape to mount it over the speedometer. Original UK radio is also inop as of December, I haven’t investigated the issue as the exhaust sound is entertaining enough. For long trips, a Bluetooth speaker or headphones suffice.
Also, all race decals are easily removable.
