Vehicle Description
The owner, who is an avid Volkswagen fan, bought this Beetle right after it just had been free'd from its deep sleep in a Fresno barn, for his son, but his son fell in love with a 1966 Mustang and changed his mind. He decided not to settle for the cute Bug, after the owner had already invested a lot of work into it. That's when the owner decided to pass this California Beetle on to the next enthusiast. The clean California title is in his name.
The “Rat look” is very popular in the Dub scene, and many owners spent countless hours creating a healthy patina on their cars. This cutie comes with a wonderful patina that is 100% genuine. The black paint is faded and cracked, the primer shines through and a few areas that were touched up are visible. Aside from that, this Bug is pretty straight and clean, with no signs of rust. All glass appears flawless, the chrome trim is in very good condition. The roof rack is an original option, the suitcase is probably equally old.
In contrast to the patina'd exterior, everything in the gray vinyl interior is new – carpeting, seat covers and the headliner, which was professionally installed. A wonderful detail is the hemp tray underneath the dashboard, which is home to the speedometer, gas gauge and original radio. Although the radio is without function, it must be mentioned that its knobs are not – as usual – ivory white, but gray – and match all the other switches, knobs and handle in the cabin – quite a rare feature!
The original 1300 cc flat four was taken apart by the owner, then cleaned, resealed and painted before being re-installed in its place. This little boxer engine (which just received a full tune-up) generates 50 hp and is mated to a 4-speed manual transmission. The undercarriage is clean, free from repairs and rust damages, and only shows surface rust. No wonder since this Bug was always a California resident its entire life. The tires are new, the shocks need to be replaced (parts are included in the sale), also the transmission boots (parts come with the car).
This car is being auctioned on a new classic car auction site. We provide a professional photos and a walk around video - See the auction here -
