Vehicle Description
1967 KAISER JEEP M726 Maintenance Truck.
The M715 pickup, M725 ambulance and M726 maintenance truck, were built for only two years, (1967 and 1968) with total production #s around 30,000 vehicles. Built under contract by the US Military for the Vietnam War, thousands saw service in Vietnam as well as stateside. The wartime contract was cancelled after only two years production because of the weak and overly problematic overhead cam 6 cylinder Jeep Tornado engine. Of all models, the M726 maintenance truck production was by far lowest with likely less than 200 units. This model is rare.
This M726 had its engine replaced with a 225 c. i. Dodge slant 6 engine at some point in its life. We believe the engine has an adapter plate for the original Warner T-98 transmission and PTO. This truck equipped with a factory hard top, military grill guard and front mounted Braden 8,000 lb PTO winch. The pto drive shaft assembly is lying in the back of the truck, (we are guessing it wasn't mounted due to a length difference with the engine conversion), but we aren't sure. The slant six was running well several years ago, but its been sitting now for about 5 years. The engine turns free and has good compression, but no spark and isn't currently running. What's perhaps is the most interesting, is the factory installed Hobart Welder and Generator Assembly that is belt driven off a specially made unit at the back of the transfer case with dual control levers inside the cab. The rear utility body is in great condition and is constructed from aluminum.
