Vehicle Description
*I have a link I can send you with well over 100 additional photos, let me know and I'll send it. Includes lots more pics of everything, including close up pics of parts and more underside shots.*
Up for sale is a late '67 Deluxe Microbus - original paint (Velvet Green / Pearl White) - the once widely ridiculed (but now highly sought after) in the uncommon condition of "relatively dry". (Read: SUPER DRY by modern midwestern standards! Check out the front floor, battery tray, doglegs, outriggers and jackpoints - pretty awesome!) Not running, MOSTLY complete (see below for details), full on project status.
- Spent most of it's life in the high desert - there's not much rust by today's standards.if you've been looking at these for a while you know that most of the good ones are already spoken for or were already shipped overseas.
- Super nice "sunburned patina" look (if you're into that sort of thing - most are anymore. :-)
- Walk through interior - original 7 passenger bus - original 6 popout bus.
- Comes with most of the hard to find deluxe specific stuff. (All OEM - includes all the beltline trim, rocker spears, wheel trim rings, front and rear bumper trim, clock, chrome emblem, steering wheel / horn button and "jail bars". Also includes correct very hard to find brown colored cargo floor mat and cab floor mat along with correct deluxe rear seat back.)
- Includes front and rear bumpers ("pointed" - correct for 1967. Both are original deluxe bumpers. Bumpers have been repainted.)
- Includes both front seats (passenger is frame only, it is kind of rough and will need some welding.)
- Includes a really nice full width middle seat frame (with grab handles), needs upholstery. This is an original split bus middle seat, out of a slightly earlier bus ('64 to '66). No kick panel. You can make it work or trade for a correct '67 seat. OR, you can buy my pristine original '67 2/3 middle seat (also with grab handles) with correct '67 kick panel for an extra $2500. Only available to someone buying this bus, sorry. (The trade-off, it's mesh grey upholstery.) (That makes the purchase an even $20K and does not include full width seat, sorry.)
- Includes rear seat back only (in really nice OG upholstery in the correct platinum mesh color). Also includes rear seat kick panel in correct color. (So missing rear seat bottom - easiest / cheapest seating piece to source for you thankfully.)
- Includes ALL OG interior panels (in correct mesh platinum color). Even has 3 correct arm rests. (The two cargo door panels and the one behind it will need to be recovered - I have them in mesh grey, but have enough mesh plantinum material to do the job). Includes ALL the correct aluminum spears for the interior panels (not shown).
- Needs a couple of pieces of metal work. Needs the rear spare tire piece sourced and welded back in. Needs the speedometer surround (present) welded back in. Has some minor rocker rust through, very minimal rust by midwest (and really the entire US_ standards anymore. Has a couple of minor dents that would need massaged out - one near each tail light, one under passenger headlight.
- No engine, big nut transmission in unknown condition. Will need complete mechanical restoration. Some wiring snafu's will need sorted out for sure.
- Missing headliner. Missing engine lid/rear apron. Otherwise bus is complete body wise. Bus is *mostly* complete parts wise (see below for details).
- Has all glass - windshields are both cracked. We can work out installation of glass and other things as needed.
INCLUDED BUT NOT SHOWN: Spare tire (wheel w/ crappy tire); passenger seat; popout latches; speedometer; correct '67 fuel tank; AM radio w/ bezel; slider window hardware; ignition switch; some hardware for securing rear seats; wiper motor/assembly; and other misc. hardware.
NOT INCLUDED: Outside mirror(s), luggage area carpet and corner panels; speaker bracket/speaker; spare tire bracket; windshield washer bottle; inside door handle escutcheons for all four doors; 1 rear ash tray; seat belts (yes, this was a factory seat belt bus.but most folks would new ones of course); and engine.
WILL BE INCLUDED IF I CAN FIND: Inside cab door pulls; inner cargo door handles; one reverse light assembly; dash controls / handles; fuel tank straps; steering column dash bracket; sun visors; short beltline deluxe piece (b-pillar); turn signal switch; cargo door locking mechanism; deluxe trim beltline insert material; rear VOLKSWAGEN script; and fuel gauge.
ADDITIONAL THINGS TO NOTE - will likely make the most sense viewing link with additional pics:
- The rocker spears you will get may not be as straight as the ones shown. I'm planning on keeping the ones show for my other '67 Deluxe, and couldn't find the ones for this bus when I was taking pictures. If I can't find the other ones, you'll get the straight ones.
- The brown floor cab floor mat pictured is from my other '67 Deluxe. Same as above, if I can't find the one for this bus, you'll get it.
- As noted above, there is a small dent under the passenger headlight – in the pics I can send you it is from where my finger is counterclockwise to 5pm on clock face. Super hard to see in pics.
- Scratch on roof is really a minor gouge.
- The forward cargo door is currently locked in place, I broke the lower rod off and can’t get cargo door open; also, there is a slight spring in this same door, most noticable at the top of the door.
- You only get one rear bumper, my choice. It will most likely be the repainted one.
- I may keep the rear seat back (pictured) and substitue one with different upholstery in for it.
I can explain all of this over the phone prior to your purchase if any of this doesn't make sense.
I think that about covers is. There's probably other little stuff I'm forgetting - make sure to ask if you have specific questions beyond what I have spelled out I guess. This is already easily the most thorough VW Bus for sale ad on the internet currently, and it is the best deal in the $20K and under category as well.
Clean title in my name. Has m-code plate, VIN plate and correct VIN inscription in engine area - all matching w/ title of course. I'm sure I'm forgetting some details, but that's gist of it. Best case scenario for you, come visit and see for yourself (or send a friend).
This thing would make a GREAT bus once done, but (again) is full on basket case status currently.
((((And now a word from Captain Obvious. ;-))))
