Vehicle Description
1968 MGB Partially completed restoration:
The 1968 MGB is a classic British roadster: low suspension, wire wheels, chrome bumpers. The 1968 was the first year model to have synchromesh for first gear, but the last that did not have an air pump for emissions control.
This is basically that rare, 50 year old barn find everyone dreams of, but you get a head start on the restoration.
Work Completed:
Body:
Both floor pans and rocker panel assemblies (rocker panel, inner rocker panel, inner side member) have been professionally removed and replaced with new metal. “Dog leg” patch panels have been installed in the quarter panels in front of both rear wheels.
Additional new body panels not yet installed include: front valance, left and right full size front fender repair panels, and left and right front splash panels.
Engine:
Block has been acid dipped, bored over size and honed. Rods have been machined and returned to spec. Crankshaft bearing surfaces have been reground.
Engine has been reassembled with new, oversized pistons and rings, new crankshaft main and rod bearings, new camshaft and clutch. Head was rebuilt by previous owner, but is not currently installed. Also not installed are NOS tappets and a NOS Weber DVG carburetor with manifold. The original Dual SU carburetor and manifold components were retained and will sell with the vehicle.
This engine was assembled approximately 30 years ago. Though high quality assembly lube was used, I recommend disassembling, cleaning, lubricating and reassembling it before use.
Other uninstalled NOS parts include:
Stainless steel exhaust
Major front suspension rebuild kits with king pins
All other original parts and fittings are stored in several large boxes, and will be included with the vehicle.
I bought this car and had most of this work done in the late 1980s as a young Naval officer. Then work, family, and life in general got in the way. Over the last 30 years it has resided in four different garages, relegating newer and more valuable vehicles to the elements. It’s just time to pass it on to someone who appreciates it for what it is, and will give it a good home. I took the easy way out and bought my wife a Miata with a convertible hardtop and paddle shifters.
Receipts for parts purchased were kept. If you have any questions, please ask. MSG
