The good:
Runs and sounds great! The 4 speed with 4:56 posi makes this car a blast to drive – you can break the wheels loose at any speed! It could easily be driven and enjoyed while slowly restoring it. The interior is in good condition. The suspension is nice and comfortable.
Body is straight, rust free, and ready to paint the color of your choice. I have all the original window trim that is in good condition.
The bad:
Electrical – the wiring in this car has been messed with over the last 52 years and is not worth salvaging. I have a brand new American Autowire Classic Update kit that I will include with the car. This is the best wiring kit on the market and is tailored to the Chevelle – the fuse box and every wire, connector, relay and harness is included with the kit. info removed)-chevelle
Salvage Title – it was not in an accident and it can still be insured. The previous owner daily drove the car and it was stolen while he was at work. After his insurance paid him out the car was recovered undamaged. He bought it back, but already had a new daily driver, so he sold it to my father-in-law and I. Title status is not as important on these old cars.
The car stops well enough, but it requires a lot of pedal effort. The power booster is either bad, or the motor does not produce enough vacuum to power a booster this large. If I were keeping it, I would get a smaller booster, or eliminate the booster and run manual brakes.
At high RPMs (above 3500 or so) shifts from 2 to 3 and 3 to 4 makes a slight noise, but it goes into gear fine. Shifter or clutch fork probably needs adjusting.
