Vehicle Description
1970 VOLKSWAGEN STD. BEETLE – 49 YEAR OLD UNMOLESTED ORIGINAL
I purchased this beautiful, completely original VW Bug from a gentleman in Montana last summer who wanted to “thin out” some of his collectibles. I am the third owner of this Bug. The original owner had driven this car out from Pennsylvania in the late 70’s to become a rancher in Montana. Around 2006, he parked the car in his barn, where it sat until around 2017. Remarkably, it still ran after all those years, but like any vehicle that had been sitting for many years, it needed freshening up.
This bug is an UNrestored original! I have chosen to “preserve” this vehicle and not restore it. I love the Patina! The dings, scratches, and horse chew marks tell a wonderful story and give this bug character like no other. The original owner had re-carpeted the Bug and replaced the seat covers with correct factory style covers about 15 years ago and they are still in great condition. The headliner is original with a couple of tiny holes but still tight and usable. The body, as I said before, shows great patina and has only flash rust which I have polished, sealed, and waxed.
Following is a list of maintenance performed on this bug to ensure a FUN DRIVING EXPERIENCE for the next owner:
• 5 new Classic all season radial tires
• All 5 wheels stripped and repainted the correct silver
• Inner and outer wheel bearings and seals replaced on all 4 wheels
• New brake shoes front and rear
• 2 new master cylinder brake light switches installed
• Brake fluid replaced
• Steering stabilizer and bushings replaced
• Electric sockets, fuse holders, horn, lighting and wiring cleaned as needed
• Crack in original windshield repaired
• Original speedometer was locked up at 88844 miles and replaced with a correct working speedometer showing 37160 miles. Due to age of vehicle, it will be sold as “Miles Exempt”
• Adjusted valves and replaced valve cover gaskets
• Changed out old gear lube and replaced with Swepco gear lube
• Changed oil, cleaned filter and oil bath air cleaner
• Cleaned and detailed vehicle inside and out plus a number of little things I have forgotten
The bug runs great now and will cruise at 65 miles an hour on the flat stretches and get great gas mileage doing it! The heater blows nice and hot and ALL the electrics work – radio, headlights, tail lights, brake lights, turn signals, gauges, dash lights, horn, dome light, etc.
If you are looking for a “Trailer Queen VW”, this is not the Bug for you. But, if you want a truly original VW Beetle with character that wears its history, this is it!
It is located in Southwest Arkansas in the Prescott area. I will be happy to meet you someplace, or give you directions to my house. I have the title in hand.
