Vehicle Description

Only imported for three years, this generation of Toyota Crown is incredibly rare. I bought the car in 2017 from the second owner who bought it May 31, 1987, with 25,771 miles. He had purchased it for his daughter who, when she put a ding in it, was demoted to a Pinto October 1, 1988, at 31,586 miles. From there, it was only driven on Sundays thru July 24, 2007, when it was parked at 31,780 miles. During his ownership he only put 6,009 miles on the car. Included is a logbook kept from the time of purchase thru when it was parked, showing oil changes, tune ups, tires, and maintenance. From the time it was parked, it was started regularly until he died in 2010. I have attached the log as three separate images below. I have also included a copy of the ad from the son when I bought it.which also includes additional history of the car. From his son, I was told his dad was a nut for maintaining the car, even trying to protect the tires by placing cedar shingles under the tires during the time of storage. Not sure how that protects the tires from flat spots :0)

Fast forward to 2017 when I bought the car.As noted by the log it was hard to start, so I decided to do a full recommissioning. I rebuilt the carb, dropped and boiled out/sealed the fuel tank, blew out the fuel lines, sourced an NOS fuel filter, rebuilt the fuel sender, replaced the battery, serviced the brakes, new points/condenser/cap/wires, installed a new exhaust system, aligned the car, and installed new tires. I also dropped the transmission pan and did an inspection/service/with a new pan seal and synthetic ATF. The only thing I would consider, is sourcing a new carburetor. I've tuned the heck out of the carb and the choke will stick occasionally and sometimes it will stall when taking off from a standing start. His log shows it starting hard, and I've solved that, and I've lubed the choke.driving it for a while might sort the stalling out. Or find a better carburetor specialist :0) I've only put on 839 miles. *The car now shows 32,619 miles.

Intended to be their luxury car offering, it is amazing how solid and quiet the car drives. Not a squeak or rattle. It is an exceptionally smooth ride. And everything works except the clock. I did test the power to the clock, and it does have power. The power antenna works, the radio works, the rear seat radio controls work (yes rear seat radio controls, for the Ambassador:), the heater works, and the original interior is near perfect with a small bit of damage on the carpet that looks like a mouse might have lunched. The original paint shines and I believe it to be mostly original.I did a paint meter test and it consistently metered 8 mils.Regardless of the story of the daughter putting a ding in the car, I could not find evidence of a repair. There are few minor rubs on the paint, a small bit of rust under the bottom of the rear window garnish, and one spot of rust on the lower/aft corner of the passenger side rear wheel opening; see the last car image. The underside of the car is solid. The windshield has a couple rock chips and might need to be replaced at some point.

Remarkable to find a car in this condition. The paint is deep and glossy, the interior is spectacular, it drives great.

I keep the car at my shop in Marysville on a battery tender, please text/call/or email if you would like to see it. Texts work best. Accompanying the car is a folder with all receipts, the original owner manuals (I love the original Toyota zip lock bag for the radio manual, and the original Toyota fuse), a shop manual, and the mentioned maintenance log.

*Mileage is based on what I was told by the second owner/person I bought the car from, the contemporaneous notes written in the log, the in-depth description from when I bought the car (see the images above), and the amazing condition of the car.But it's a 51-year-old car and while I have no reason to doubt the previous owners extensive claims of mileage, I wasn't there so can't guarantee it.

Texts work best, but I respond to emails and calls as well. I am thinning out my car collection, please see my other ads.
