Vehicle Description
In 1985 This 52,000 mile 1974 Cadillac sedan De Ville was driven into a Washington Barn where it slept for 37 years in the company of nearly 100 additional Cadillacs and other collectable vintage cars. A TRUE barn find. (note the 1985 license plate tag)
The car is finished in extremely rare Persian Green over beautiful supple beige leather. (I have not been able to find another Persian Green sedan anywhere on the planet with the exception of one car in Australia)
Getting this fantastic land yacht back on the road wasn't too difficult; the spark plugs were removed and Marvel Mistry oil was added to the cylinders and allowed to sit prior to start up. The cars 27 gallon tank was removed, cleaned, sealed and reinstalled, fuel lines were cleaned, the engines oil changed, belts replaced, coolant replaced, starter rebuilt, battery replaced and a new set of tires installed - all of this in the last 3 months.
The car starts instantly both cold and warm (After a 37 year nap, some gremlins were expected but, there was nothing too serious that needed repair)
Aesthetics were next. The plastic body bits between the body and rear bumper had become extremely brittle (those who know these cars will understand) New inserts were acquired and refinished. They are aftermarket parts and don't fit quite as well as the originals but, are far better than what was there. The cars original paint has been cleaned, polished and waxed. there are very few minor flaws but, given the cars age, the paint is truly excellent. The vinyl top has been cleaned, it is beautiful. The yards of leather were next. The leather has no cuts or tears and has been refurbished using a very expensive product called "Leatherique" This cars leather is simply fantastic and remarkably supple, you really have to feel it. The cars chrome is excellent and has cleaned nicely as has the stainless.
All of the cars systems function as designed, windows, door locks, truck release, soft close trunk feature, radio, antenna lights etc, all function perfectly. The AC is not working as I do not have the needed AC gauges or enough R12 to charge the system. I will provide the 2 lbs that I do have with the sale. (the system requires 4)
The car runs and drives flawlessly. It starts instantly, the transmission shifts smoothly, brake modulation and pedal feel are excellent. There is no steering play and there is not a rattle or squeak in the car.
This was also the last model that Cadillac produced as a 4 door hard top, a pillarless 4 door. These sedans were produced from 1971 to 1976
These cars are the next big collector cars, you heard it here first! These wonderful big Caddy's, Buick's, Oldsmobile's, Chrysler's etc, were all being crushed in the 1990's as part of the "Cash for Clunkers" program. Sadly. most are gone or sitting in junk yards rusting away. It is becoming increasingly difficult to find rust-free, accident free, low mile examples as collectors are buying the good ones up and paying big money for them. A recent auction site, just last week, just saw a 1971 Cadillac Fleetwood with 20,000 miles bring am amazing $40,000 !
This is an opportunity! Shown by appointment only. This Cadillac will be available on Craig's for just a few days, it will then be put up for auction, this advert removed and it is sure to bring far more money.
