Vehicle Description
IT'S GOTTA GO! NEED MY GARAGE FOR TWO WAITING PROJECTS. PRICE REDUCED $3,000.00! TIME CAPSULE! AMAZING ORIGINAL 1974 VW BEETLE SURVIVOR! GERMAN BUILT (not Mexican)! ONE-OF-A-KIND! It was owned in Las Vegas (desert) most of it's life and ONLY HAS 47,750 ORIGINAL MILES ON IT! An average of 1,000 MILES PER YEAR! This is a very rare find! Has the all original 1600 CC - 12V engine! Virtually 99% rust free (see photos of floor pans that are still shiny)! Just went through a 3-month total mechanical "rehabilitation" or maybe even call it a full resurrection, bumper-to-bumper including a complete out-of-car rotisserie of the motor. Had a paint "respray" estimated about 10-15 years ago in VW Orange (originally red) which I'd say is still a 8.5 out of 10 with a minor crack here and there. Other than that – an all original SURVIVOR! Never wrecked! It was owned by an elderly man that recently passed in his 90’s and left to his daughter here in Va. I have a Sears tire receipt that shows that it was only driven around a 1,000 miles in the last 10 years! I've installed several thousands of dollars in new parts with as many original VW replacement parts as possible from JBUGS in California. This 3-month project with over a hundred hours of labor has been my latest “retiree” project as a life-long gear-head. Always wanted to have a "Bug" project because I grew up with them. So here's a fairly comprehensive list of my refresh; New plugs, wires, fuel pump, coil, pulleys, belt, distributor, cap, rotor, valves adjusted, all new engine gaskets, new clutch, new flywheel, new throw-out bearing, new rear main seal, new synthetic oil change, new gas tank and sending unit, new OEM style running boards, new ignition switch, new fuel filter, new exhaust manifold gaskets, new gas cap, new heating hoses, new engine heater boxes (I call them headers), new EMPI exhaust muffler (sounds amazing), FIVE new Kuhmo tires (yes including the spare too), four brand new "Chromies" wheels and lug nuts, four brand new chrome “dog-dish” hubcaps, all new fuses, both new headlight bulbs, all four new front and rear turn signal/brake light assemblies, 4 new NAPA Response gas-charged shocks, transaxle drain and fill with new gear oil. The last parts that were just installed were totally new all four “trailing arms” and ball joints, complete inner and outer tie rod assemblies (basically a whole new front suspension), cleaned and adjusted all four drum brakes, and repacked the front wheel bearings. For a 48-year old original car it really runs and drives amazing! Everything was kept "stock" and “original” for the highest continuous value (except for the muffler (EMPI) and the high-performance air cleaner, but the original air cleaner goes with it). And importantly, it also comes with the original VW-version of U.S. Indy Mag wheels WITH VW CENTER CAPS! (see photo). A local VW enthusiast tells me these wheels are so rare they alone are worth over $2,000.00! Keep them or sell them, you’re choice.
You can see (in the photo) that Hagerty's classic car web site says it's worth between $10,800 in only "Good" condition (basically how I bought it) all the way up to $25,600 in "Excellent" condition. With all that I have mechanically “refreshed” in this original survivor, It is easily in Very Good to Excellent Condition "for it's age and originality". My asking price of $11,995.00 is VERY, VERY fair to any buyer! And everybody knows original “Survivors” are the best investment! Keep it dry and hold the mileage down and it will only go up in value! The Hemmings Classic appraisal site says the average asking price for a 1974 Beetle is $18,391.00! This IS NOT a show car but an all-original, "driver-quality survivor"! Show me another desert VW with only 47K original miles! Gets waves and thumbs-up everywhere you go! Come see it here in Chesterfield, Va. and let's take a test drive if you're a serious potential buyer. Please don't waste my time with any blind offers. I only discuss prices face-to-face. Messages between 9:00 A.M. to 9:00 P.M. please. If you see the ad it's still available, so don't ask!
Where were you in 1974? High School? College? Just born? Want a great car to drive to “Cars and Coffee” without spending a fortune? Ever had a Beetle before and really miss it? This one will be around a long-long time to come!
No help needed to sell. Serious inquiries only. Text at (8-0-4)-two-two-one-six-five-five-five for questions and to set up a phone discussion or test drive.
