This example of the 1978 Silver Anniversary Corvette received a mechanical overhaul in 2010, less than 5000 miles ago. Actual miles on this car are unknown, but certainly not as low as the odometer shows. The circumstance of the odometer change is not known as that happened before acquisition of the car as a mechanical rebuild project. The original power plant was cleaned, machined, cylinders bored .30 over, stock crank reground, and stock rods reconditioned. New parts used in the build include RHS Pro Torker heads, Comp Cams Xtreme Energy cam, and Edelbrock Performer intake & carb. While the car hasn’t been on a dyno, the combination of parts should yield 350HP. By changing the carb for one with higher flow, this setup will yield 500HP, but all that does is burn up tires. As it is now, the car has good hard shifts, can chirp the tires on the 1-2 shift, and is ridiculous fun to drive. New parts installed during the rebuild in 2010:
Speed Pro Pistons & Rings, p/n H345NCP
ARP Main Stud Kit SBC 2-bolt, p/n 134-5401
ARP High-Performance Series Flexplate Bolt Kit, p/n 100-2901

Summit Racing Chrome Transmission Dipstick, TH350, p/n G3880
Dewitts High Performance Aluminum Radiator
All the normal rebuild parts including freeze plugs, cam bearings and main bearings.
In 2017 the Climate Control System was overhauled and charged with a full charge of R-12. Three years later, the system still blows cold without any further Freon charge. The power steering pump and valve were also rebuilt. Parts installed:
A/C Compressor and Clutch, ACDelco GM OE 15-20206, p/n 16100351-DCB-2020-1520206
Receiver/Dryer
A/C Evaporator Core
Orifice Tube
Temperature Sending Unit
Hot Water Shut-Off Vacuum Valve
Power Steering valve rebuild kit
Power steering hoses
All engine V-belts
HEI replacement module and harness, p/n 91012338
In 2019/2020, vacuum parts related to the headlamps were replaced, and the vacuum actuators rebuilt. Due to a leak in one front brake caliper, both front brake calipers were rebuilt/upgraded and loaded with new pads. The OE style caliper pistons have a tendency to leak on vehicles that are not driven very much, and the upgrade done includes new caliper pistons that use o-rings (DOT5 and higher fluid must not be used). Parts replaced include:
Headlight Vacuum Actuator Rebuild Kit Seal/Boot
Headlight Vacuum Door Open Override Switch underdash
2-Port Vacuum Headlamp Switch
Corvette Front Brake Caliper O-Ring Seal and Piston Rebuild Upgrade Kit
Front Brake Pads, p/n PFB PF727M
Along the way, other parts were replaced, including:
Dash clock replaced with Solid State replacement from Instrument Services Inc.
Windshield Wiper motor
This car has been garaged and kept under a car cover (cover included, though it is end-of-life). Also included are repair manuals, an electrical schematic poster, and other documentation useful in repair and maintenance.
