Vehicle Description
1979 Chevrolet K5 Blazer crawler
This is street legal, but it's a rock crawler. If you're looking for a daily driver, probably not the ride for you. . . some rust, lots of dents, no door keys, etc, etc.
If you're interested in a trail rig that's tons of fun as-is and a good base for an even better build, this might be your truck.
Drivetrain
Stock 350. Recently rebuilt Q-jet.
Built TH350 trans with a mild shift kit.
Stock NP203 t-case with the usual part-time conversion
Brand new exhaust
3/4 ton axles, 14 bolt rear with Detroit Locker, 8-lug 10-bolt front. 4.10 gears.
36x13.50x17 Interco IROK bias ply tires with only a couple of trail runs since new
17x9 H2 aluminum wheels
Matching spare tire/wheel
Interior:
Roll cage
PRP suspension off-road seats
CB Radio (with a PA speaker too) and Firestick antenna
Included lockable toolbox at back (see pics)
Includes 60" hi-lift jack, fire extinguisher
Cab area rhino-lined
Removable door pins to take doors off (although they're fucking heavy. . .two person job)
Exterior:
Homemade front and rear bumpers - The front wasn't me and it's just ok, the back is fantastic and super-beefy.
Old-school off road lights on front - not currently working
Custom rock sliders integrated into the cab body (removed sheet metal, adding about 2 inches of clearance)
Really old soft top and truck tailgate conversion. (Also includes the hard top with one broken window if you want it)
Suspension
3 inch Tuff Country EZ ride springs in front and an ORD zero-rate add-a-leaf that moves the front axle 1 inch forward.
4 inch lift blocks in back
Frame at steering box (and passenger side at same place) reinforced with 1/4 inch plate
Stuff that I haven't done yet, but comes with it
DIY4X A-bomb front bumper/suspension system includes winch mount, new cross member, and mounts for upgrading to 52 inch leaf springs on the front (better flex)
DIY4X Shackle flip kit for the rear: Will remove the blocks and go up to a 60 inch spring if desired
60 inch leaves (mid-90's Chevy truck) optional for the rear shackle flip
Lock-rite locker for front axle.
Notes of caution:
Totally driveable, registered, and street legal, but the steering is pretty sloppy - could use all new rod ends, I was waiting to convert to crossover steering once I had all the parts.
Won't pass Pima County emissions at it sits: It has a catalytic converter and the exhaust manifolds that include the AIR fittings, but I was still in the process of finding a bracket and AIR pump when I found out that if you insure it as a "collectible" car (must be a second car and less than 5K miles/year) it's exempt from emissions. Up to you if you want to finish the smog system or just do what I did.
Loose connection under the steering column requires a bang on the column to start now and then.
Body rust, but nothing structural, the floor is rust-free and solid.
About half of the dash lights are out.
Fuel gauge isn't accurate, although it does work.
For those who know the area: Runs Ajax, Woodpecker (before they fucking graded it), etc, with no problem.
