Vehicle Description
This is not a numbers car. However, it is a completely rust-free 1979 Pontiac Trans Am with T-tops that you can jump in, fire up, and take for a drive whenever you please. It does have a 1978 Trans Am nose on it because, if we're all honest, that front end just looks so much better than the 1979. I've had this car in my garage for nearly 20 years and would like to find it a good home where it will finish becoming the car it deserves to be. This is a completely running and driving car.
The suspension has been completely updated but its steering box is a bit loose. I do have an extra steering column that goes with it. All body work has been professionally done - no Bondo bucket here! The engine is essentially a stock Olds 403 (Google "Unsung Hero Olds 403" for a great article about this engine) that's been updated with a simple MSD 6A ignition and aluminum intake manifold. I recently did a compression test - all cylinders are good and consistent. The transmission shifts good and strong with a B&M shifter, but there is a small leak at the output shaft. It's an especially fun, eye-catching car that I've come to only drive a few times each year.
I also have a bunch of extras that go with it including 2 sets of T-Tops, 2 shakers, 2.5 carburetors, set of 1978 taillights and license plate holder, extra brushed aluminum dash insert, the original OEM service manual that GM sent to dealership service centers, and much more.
This car does need an interior and weather stripping. I don't have the original front seats, but I do have the original back seat along with most interior trim pieces. Essentially what you have here is an exceptional starting point for a collectible classic car ready to be finished however you please. All the expensive body work has been done. It runs great the way it sits and just needs a few bucks worth of interior work to be a much more valuable show car or throw a roll cage in it to begin the perfect foundation of a true Trans Am car. There's an outfit in Florida called Trans Am Specialties that can give you an idea of what these cars are worth with an interior, so I feel $15k is a fair asking price.
