Vehicle Description
1980 GMC Sierra Grande camper special. Lots of new parts and has only been driven about 10,000 miles in the last 4 or 5 years. Under 107,000 miles on the body with approximately 50K on crate 350 and rebuilt or replaced 3-speed TH400 automatic transmission. 4 barrel Edelbrock carb. This truck is an absolute beast hauling and towing and can easily handle a ton in the bed. Runs very good and is inspected through 1/20.
The good:
Awesome Treadwright 26575R16 10-ply tires with low miles
Nice black 16" 8-lug steel rims (truck originally had 16.5's)
Much of the dual exhaust has been replaced including one cat and Flowmaster pipes and the truck has a nice sound with 20" long chrome tips out the back
New front inner fenders
New plugs this summer
New wipers
Newer power steering pump and starter
Newer v-belts and radiator hoses as well as heater hose
Newer steering stabilizer and some other front end parts
Newer front calipers and brakes
Newer battery
Bushwacker fender flares on the rear
Nice reupholstered seat
Aftermarket dash cover
tachometer added to the dash
Heavy duty 2-inch hitch and has an electric brake controller
Old school brush guard
Old school headers
Nice locking Husky tool box
Super heavy spray in bed liner
4wd works great and no issues with manual locking hubs
I have a box of odd-n-ends including wiper motor, fan motor, extra plugs, etc.
The bad
Truck is getting pretty rusty in spots. Driver's side rocker panel has been patched (with aluminum) as has passenger's side cab corner and door (with fiberglass). The truck bed floor is pretty rusty but I replaced the bed rails and hauled a ton of wood pellets with no issues. I do have a 4x8 sheet of plywood laying in the bed to distribute the weight a bit.
The rear main seal leaks. I add a quart of oil every 1000 miles or so. Rear brake shoes are getting pretty low but will probably still pass inspection. Right now the windshield wiper switch won't return the wipers to the bottom before turning off. I do have an extra switch. Horn button is homemade and on the console. Temp gauge is newer and placed in the console too. The radio sucks but there is a decent box speaker behind the seat. Fog lights work but occasionally blow the fuse. Manual choke on the console. Works fine. Twin tanks but the passenger's side tank has been patched and may leak. One old section of exhaust on the passenger's side has collapsed a bit under a clamp causing a small exhaust leak and I haven't got around to fixing it yet.
This truck has been a very reliable work truck and you've got to love the old square bodies! It would be a great candidate for a flatbed, dump or wrecker body, or would make a great plow truck. It would also be an easy winter project for someone who wanted to do a little easy body work and replace or repair the box. This was my daily driver for awhile and the suspension is pretty stiff, something to be aware of on our horrendous roads. I have hauled over 3000 lbs with this truck with no problem.
Time to sell but I am not desperate to do so and won't give the truck away. Asking $3500 and that's pretty fair. Looking for a nice 2-stage snowblower, hunting items, tractor with loader, and you might be able to tempt me with something else to throw in the mix so it can't hurt to ask.
Due to the excessive spam I get on my phone, please email through this site if interested and I will get back to you. If you do email with questions or to set up an appointment, please include enough info so I know you're not a scammer. Truck is located just north on Montrose, PA and I am available most evenings and weekends with a little advance notice. Thank you!
