Vehicle Description
This 1984 Land Rover Defender 90 4x4 has been painstakingly rebuilt in a frame-up restoration. Ever wanted a car you could work on yourself? This is it.no ECU. Far from the world of EVs and AI this rig has a handful of fuses for the lights and that's about it. Just good old turbo diesel powering all-time 4-wheel drive.
Pictures are from various stages of the build to show the extent of work done.
The original 2.5L diesel engine was swapped out for a Land Rover 300Tdi engine which was rebuilt by Sarek Autowerke in Glen Allen VA. This is the last engine Land Rover made without an ECU. Transmission was upgraded to the 1.2 gearbox for better highway performance. The transmission has about 10k miles on it, the engine less than 10k. The frame is original and the mileage on the odometer was set to match the original when the engine was swapped ~78k miles (nothing for this type/age of vehicle).
The body color is Land Rover Beluga Black. LineX has been applied to the interior roof, wheel arches, truck bed, footwells, front grill, headlight surrounds, and more to provide added durability, weatherproofing, and sound deadening. Dynaliner under the hood and passenger cabin. Dynamat and Dynaliner applied inside the door cards for noise control. Powder coated diamond plate on the wings. Stainless grated wing-top air intakes.
Engine bay hoses etc replaced with silicon hoses so they won't rot or crack. New brake lines, fuel pump, new high output alternator, new Bosche fuel injectors, new end-to-end exhaust, ceramic coated manifold. All aluminum Allisport radiator, intercooler, power oil breather tank and coolant reserve. GPS speedometer for accurate MPH reading and milage. MadMan display integrated into the dash with exhaust and radiator temps (expandable for more functionality). EGR has been blanked off for fuel economy. Custom leather seats with optional 2 stage seat heaters. Limited edition graphite sawtooth wheels (rims) + a set of steel offroad wheels and tires. LED lights all around and on/off halo (cat eye) daytime running lights. Aluminum + powder coated shifter and diff knob. Locking center consol. Upgraded mil-spec HD door hinges powder coated black to match the rig. Titanium Exhaust heat wrap, silicon coated, secured with stainless locking cables. Hundreds of dollars in stainless fasteners used to replace factory steel bolts. So many more upgrades I'm forgetting.
I've got loads of extras like rear bench seats, custom fabricated speaker boxes, 2nd battery isolator and circuit box, trunk mount powder-coated tool box, brand new upholstery kit, lock barrels, and many more depending on your interest.
This was a labor of love / passion project, and I really enjoyed restoring this car/truck.but with 90% of the work done, I find myself focusing on other things. I'd rather see this beautiful beast find a new home with someone who appreciates her. Happy to answer any questions, but serious inquiries only, please.
