Vehicle Description
1984 Toyota Celica GT-S Coupe.
Manual 5 speed, 22RE engine, RWD, independent rear suspension, auto-locker diff.
The Good:
1. Almost 100% complete. Everything but the side trim is there.
2. Pretty straight. There's one or two small rust spots and no real dents to speak of.
3. Runs and drives. That is, it will move under it's own power. Transmission and clutch are OK.
4. Interior is in remarkably good condition for a car of this age.
5. Motor seems to have good compression and such.
6. It's got THE mags. The Supra fanatics in Cali will probably buy them off you for what I'm asking for the car.
The Bad:
1. Cooling system is full of stop-leak or something. Radiator and heater core are basically both blocked. You can pull the car up on a trailer under it's own power but you're going to need to have the guys at American Radiator clean out the main radiator or purchase an upgrade for a Supra or something. I bought the heater core and it's sitting on the floor in the back. Changing it is a pain.
2. Fueling is being weird. I can get it to run well at top end or bottom but not both. I don't have the time to troubleshoot it but someone has previously been in the airflow meter and made adjustments which isn't a good sign. Troubleshooting this can be a righteous pain in the butt and it's probably easier to just shotgun parts at it. Thankfully the three main components of the system are still available for reasonable prices. It may simply need adjustment. 22RE engines are cool but not my area of expertise.
3. Someone was too lazy or dumb to replace the thermal time switch in the radiator and ran a wire back to the center console for the main cooling fan. Cheap part, easy to replace, pointless to do without fixing the radiator first.
This is the last actual Celica. After this, they were FWD or, worse yet, Subaru's and BMW's in Toyota clothing. I can attest that the car drives just as well sideways as it does forward. This car has not been seriously altered.
I will not let you try to drive this car more than a mile or two to it's final destination. Bring a trailer if you live outside north Richland. I can't let someone overheat a perfectly good 22RE. The engine alone is worth the entire asking price.
This has the potential to be a really fun car for someone who knows Toyotas.
Cash only. Don't offer less. The car is worth three times what I'm asking in parts alone. Last one of these that sold on bringatrailer went for over 11k with similar mileage, and one with half the miles went for 20k on September 3rd.
