Vehicle Description
Older, rather rough Chevy van, with what was a working bucket, last time I used it. That was about a year ago, when I drove it 50 miles, so my cousin could use it to replace fluorescent tubes in his motel sign. Then 50 mile back home. Drove and rode very nice that day, as it always had. Surprisingly comfortable on the road. Has automatic transmission. I had the hydraulic pump for the bucket rebuilt about two years ago. Squeals a little bit (belt slipping?) when you haven't used it for awhile, but stops after it is used a bit. It's kind of an old beater, with some rust, part of it crudely repaired, at least one rust hole still in the floorboard, but it has many good qualities.
When I started it in March, it started and ran well, as it always had. I've always had to pump the accelerator and wait for a couple minutes for gas to arrive at the carburetor. Seems it must drain back to the tank when setting.
Next time I tried to start it, in May I think, it wouldn't start, and it hasn't run since. Battery was good last time I tried.
I don't know if it might need a new fuel filter, fuel pump, carburetor rebuild, something in the ignition system, or what. It could be a simple fix, or something more complicated or costly.
If it were running as it should, I'd be asking $4000 for it, instead of $2500. Last year, I had a 2002 Pontiac break a timing chain, and I ended up not spending what it would cost for repair or engine replacement. I'd think I wouldn't have the same problem with a 2nd vehicle in the same year, but who knows?
Tires are good. I checked them and all four still had the same 40 pounds I put in them over a year ago. I'm sure they are old, but they should last awhile longer.
You'd most likely have to bring a truck or trailer to haul this home, unless you might get lucky and diagnose and fix it where it sets.
