Vehicle Description
Hello, and thanks for looking at my ad. Please read the entire thing before contacting me with questions. Right off the bat… no trades, and will not respond to “Is this still available?” Please leave a phone number I can reach you at if you're interested. Don't waste my time or yours.
For sale is a 1987 Ford F150 Custom with an 8’ bed and single cab. The truck has 42,400 original miles and was purchased at a Ford dealership in Mifflinburg on September 30th, 1987. It was in the same family for the entire time until I bought it this summer.
The F150 has a 300 4.9 fuel-injected strait 6, one of the best engines ever built. If you’re reading this, you likely know the history. It’s mated to a 4 speed manual transmission. 2wd 8’ bed, 3.55 gears non limited-slip. 5 leaf spring packs, rear ABS, dual tank (both work and do not leak).
As you can see from the pictures, this thing is a gem. Not perfect, but its flaws are few for a truck of this era!
The frame and underside are in excellent shape. I repainted the outer frame and undercoated the floorboards. The rockers on both sides are immaculate, and the bed is nearly perfect. There is one spot of rust on one bed rail, but that’s it.
The body had a few repairs done to it over the years, such as the rear driver’s side corner on the bed near the bumper. I repaired a small section of rust on the driver’s side floorboard (welded in new metal, did not use Bondo! The repair was maybe only 2-3 inches). I repainted several pieces of the engine bay, front grill, wheel covers, etc.
The truck had a fair paint job done at some point; a few runs here and there, but overall it looks good. I’ve waxed it and the paint shines, but someone could use a cutting compound on the paint to really smooth it out. The truck still looks great regardless! There is some minor paint bubbling on the bottoms of the doors and top of the cab near the edges, but the steel is still solid.
I applied a roll-on bed liner to the bed, rear bumper, and tailgate. It looks sharp. The bed has absolutely no rust or major dents whatsoever.
Mechanically, it runs and drives like a new truck. Prepare yourself for the litany of work I’ve done to it over the summer/fall…
New rear shocks, wiper motor, passenger caliper, engine oil pressure switch, starter solenoid, horn , plugs, wires, cap, rotor, belt, thermostat, front sway bar bushings, air filter, fuel filter, and headlight bulbs. I also replaced the cowl seal, which is why the wiper motor went, as well as the weatherstrip scraper seals (both inner and outer) on both doors. The radiator support had some rust on it, so I replaced it as well.
The truck has very nice tires with excellent tread- no rot at all on the tires. Battery is strong, clutch is excellent. All fluids have been changed- rear differential (plus new gasket), brake lines have been bled until fresh fluid flowed, radiator was flushed, power steering/clutch fluids were siphoned and changed out a few times, and of course… fresh oil. No leaks that I can see. No front end play anywhere- very tight. Rides EXCELLENT!
In the past couple of thousand miles (previous owner), the truck got new brake lines, front and rear brakes, front brake hoses, and rear parking brake cables/hardware. The rear sway bar end links and bushings were replaced.
The interior is MINT. The paint on the roof even shines like new! The door panels look like they came just came from the factory. The original seat is still there but has some imperfections, but the cover that is on it is in excellent condition. You won’t believe how beautiful the inside of this truck looks!
Included is an 8’ aluminum cap in good condition. I don’t have keys for the locks, but everything does function on it. The rear struts even work!
I’m sure I’m forgetting stuff. I even have the original owner’s manual and supplemental material from Ford, and they look brand new. The truck just passed state inspection with flying colors on October 30th. I have receipts for most of the parts I just listed. I would drive this to Florida tomorrow. Been getting lots of compliments when driving it around!
It doesn’t get much better than this for an older classic truck! This is a no-frills truck in beautiful condition.
The ONLY thing wrong with the truck is the fuel gauge doesn't work all of the time. I believe there is varnish on the sensors from modern-day gasoline. However, the more I drive it, the most the gauge starts to function.
All of the pictures were taken on 11/6.
Asking price is $6,800. “Wiggle-room” on price will depend on interest.
Clean title in hand. Once again, no trades, cash sale only. No holds. Thank you once more for looking!
