Vehicle Description
1990 Tiger Astro Provan Pop Top (rare find!!) - Please read everything written before contacting me
This Tiger Provan (4.3L Chevy V6 Astro) was purchased in August with hopes of fixing a few things up to use. It runs well and is fun to drive. However, the guy I purchased it from was not very honest about what needs work. I decided that it was not something I personally wanted to invest in. If you are someone who is mechanical, handy at fixing things or don’t mind putting money in it, this would be a good fit for you! I am really sad to sell it, I had a lot of ideas for the van but I know it will be awesome for someone else
- Low miles, ~94k
- Body is 1989 Astro Van, Provan is built by Tiger out of Colorado (only around 900 built) in 1990
- Odometer, speedometer, temp gauge all work
- Tires have less than 5k miles on it, 2 years old
- Battery is ~2 years, auxiliary battery less than a year
- Needs: front + rear brakes, catalytic converter, front + rear shock absorbers
- There is some rust from spending time in MN, it was inspected by a frame specialist and can be fixed (idler arms area)
- Other pros: Fits in most garages, doesn’t feel like a boat driving compared to some campers, people will love to talk to you about it, can find parts pretty easily, heat/ A/C /defrost work well, wider than a traditional van, there’s a whole forum with tons of info about fixing Astro vans as well as Provans
The van interior also needs work. Primarily the pop top front panel is falling apart and needs to be replaced (also could purchase lift struts for the mean time and to assist with listing). The previous owners started removing the original interior, but there is still a propane stove and heating system (I have not run either) as well as a fridge that can run on electric or propane. The shower drain still exists but they took out the rest of the shower and the water tank was taken off (but still have it).
The original bench/ bed system is still in place. I think the more open version of this is really nice for someone who wants to customize the van and give it a touch-up. Roof seems to be in good shape (it does seem like there was water entering at one point, I have not noticed that when the van has been with me with the pop top down). There are 2 vents on top that can be opened, they do not have fans but you could easily swap them out for a Maxxair or Fantastic fan, or create your own.
If you are interested I would also check out tapatalk.com for a forum with lots of info on Tiger Provans. These vans are pretty unique and people will pay good money for them. If you are willing to invest in this van I am sure you will get your money back in the long run (I have seen them sell for 9k-30k, when they are in decent shape with higher mileage than this one has).
I will consider reasonable offers but I also am not in a huge rush to sell. I know a lot of folks are interested in these vans!
