Vehicle Description
This listing is for my 1991 Toyota Pickup with an OM617 Mercedes turbo diesel swap. It is a standard cab with a Toyota canopy that makes it kind of look like a 4Runner. It was originally a V6 truck so it has the bigger brakes and everything else. The transmission is out of a Turbo 22RE truck. The interior has been completely cleaned rebuilt. I added a rubberized sound deadening layer and an insulating layer to the firewall and floor. This makes a huge difference in the amount of heat radiating from the exhaust and the amount of sound that gets into the cab. The 17 gallon main fuel tank is new and there is an auxiliary 15 gallon fuel tank (installation needs to be completed) that replaced the spare tire under the bed. This gives a total fuel capacity of 32 gallons. With the diesel conversion I average about 22 gallons per mile. This gives a range of about 700 miles without having to refuel. The turbo was just rebuilt and in great shape. The drivetrain has been lifted and a custom transmission crossmember was made to increase the ground clearance under the truck by 6". The rear springs were swapped out for longer 63" leaf springs. This increases the carrying capacity, gives a smoother ride and provides for greater articulation of the rear axle. The front and rear differentials are running 4.88 gears with Ausi Lockers. The tires only have a few thousand miles on them. They are 31" Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac with a new full size spare on a steel wheel. This truck climbs pretty much everything and I've never been able to get it stuck (knock on wood). There is a CB radio for when you get lonely out in the middle of nowhere and the Bluetooth head unit keeps you sane in Seattle gridlock. I was originally planning on doing a solid axle swap but I'll be leaving that decision up to the new owner. The truck is a long way from perfect and still a project but it runs and drives. It definitely needs an alignment. The front suspension, brakes and bearings will need attention sooner than later. If you have a ways to go I'd recommend bring a trailer or having it towed. The engine is old and some of the injectors are visibly wet and in need of a rebuild. It needs a new windshield and some preventative rust maintenance on the body but, a little elbow grease will keep this thing going for many more years to come. The body is far from pristine. There are many dents and the front driver corner looks to have had damage in the past. Nothing catastrophic and it's straight enough to hang the fenders and hood with reasonable panel gaps but you will notice it if you look under the hood. There is a little rust around the windshield frame that will clean up once the windshield is out. This is not a rust bucket with Swiss cheese floorpans or a rusted out frame. I'm just being upfront about the problems you will undoubtably need to address. If you don't like to tinker then this is not for you. I have a bunch of parts that will come with the truck. A rear bumper, filters and spares for the engine, a seal kit for the steering box, a signal converter to make the tachometer work and a bunch more. I used to use this truck to go camping with my dog but, recent life changes have necessitated a camping vehicle with a seating arrangement that can accommodate a child seat and my wife. Needless to say, a standard cab Toyota will no longer fit the bill. I love this truck and I hate to let it go but, it is what it is. Cash is preferred. Please leave your phone number in your email. The truck is old, the engine is old and the gauge cluster is not original to the truck. So your guess is about as good as mine.
