Vehicle Description
1992 Ford Escort that has a transmission leak. 147k miles. Engine is fine. Transmission is fine. It can still be driven by adding less than a quart of automatic transmission fluid-- 1/2 pint good for a 20 miles round trip. It is the automatic transmission cooler line that is leaking. Cannot find the part, so it has to be jury-rigged. Stop leak products did not fix it. Epoxy products did not fix it. Roofing tar did not fix it. It currently has my tags on it with insurance and a WV Inspection Sticker good thru October 2020.
Fix might be to cut the current bad line, replace it with hoses clamped to remaining metal lines. But I am not certain exactly where the leak is. I'd be willing to pay $200 for someone to jury-rig a fix for me, because it is a very reliable car= never has let me down since I bought it used in 2003.
I want to replace it with a 1980s-1990s manual transmission 4-door sedan. I have not been able to find one after 6 months of searching. This Escort will not be sold until I find a replacement, because it is still a very good backup vehicle with an inspection sticker good for another year. My tags expire March 1, 2020. I like old vehicles that do not have parasitic electronics and computer chips; and that can sit for weeks and months and still start.
