Vehicle Description
Tell me you’ve seen another one like it in California! I dare you!
What we have here is a 1995 4x4 Mazda MPV on a 2 inch lift. Just over 100k miles on a mid-90s Japanese engine! 4x4 at the push of a button. Cruise control. Tow-hitch. All kinds of little perks. This awesome rig was imported from Japan! Still drive on the left side, but the speedometer and odometer are in KMs. This rig drives like a champ through it all! Snow, sand, mud and gravel… it can compete with the best of the overlanders.
Electronic multi-mode 4wd transfer case really helps out in times of severe weather.
Goodyear Wrangler tires have plenty of life left on them.
I had all the paperwork switched over to California… this is one hell of a process… but got handled pretty smoothly thanks to help from friends.
Smogged, California plates, registered until November 2022.
It has had over $10000 dollars put into it in the last 14k miles and I have paperwork from certified mechanics to back it all:
14k miles ago:
-engine timing belt
-water pump
-spark plugs
-brake fluids flushed
-camshaft seal
-coolant hose
13k miles ago:
-front and real differentials fluids drained and refilled
-transmission oil pan and gasket
-4x4 relays replaced
11k miles ago:
-valve cover gaskets
-all 24 valve lifters replaced
9k miles ago:
-tires dismounted and mounted
-wheel spin balance
-thrust angle alignment
8k miles ago:
-water temperature sensor replaced
-coolant temp sensor replaced
-both CV axle shafts replaced
-all struts replaced
-bearings replaced
-ball joints replaced
7k miles ago:
-idle speed control valve replaced
6k miles ago:
-muffler replaced
-complete brake job
3k miles ago:
-Transmission replaced
The Camper Buildout was just finished! We built it out with lots of storage in mind. It still smells of fresh cut wood! The mattress is a new 8 inch foam mattress cut to fit design. The cooking setup is perfect for throwing down a great meal while camping and on the road! There’s plenty of space for everything you need when you hit the road for an extended trip! Roof rack also provides TONS of more storage!
THE BAD:
- heater is pretty weak
- stereo is on the fritz (I’ve been using a nice, portable JBL speaker and works great)
This thing is ready to hit the open road and go backcountry with the press of the 4x4 button!
Also keep in mind it is a 1995… not everything is new and shiny and perfect. But driving this thing up a dirt mountain road in the rain felt like a walk in the park on a sunny day.
Let me know if you have any questions!
