Vehicle Description
This beautiful, rare 1996 Ford Bronco XLT with Tobago Green Clear Coat Metallic paint and gray leather/leatherette interior is proof that an old fat dude like me should listen more to his wife (and orthopedic surgeon) before opening the checkbook. But, as ’96 was the last year for the full size Bronco to roll off of the lines… I had to have this truck to fulfill my selfish, even egomaniacal needs. Then my knees and back spoke to me.
I had been searching for a Bronco, my mid-life crisis vehicle, for almost a year when this one leaped out at me from the Internet. I purchased it, immediately had the 4-inch Rough Country Lift Kit installed, 33 inch BFG All-Terrains, and the drive line rebuilt to get it up in the air. The appearance speaks for itself; not too tall, tires tucked neatly into the wheel wells, and the chrome ‘geriatric’ nerf bars adding to this 96’s classic look.
Here are the specifics:
1996 Bronco XLT Leather package
166,100 miles
33/12.50/15 BF Goodrich All-Terrain TA’s (installed with 160,785 miles on the truck)
4 inch Rough Country Lift Kit with 6 shocks
5.8L (351 Windsor) V-8 Engine
Tow Package
Power windows, rear window, door locks, mirrors
Escort Radar Detector (hard-wired)
With that said, appearance isn’t all there is to this near classic truck. In recent weeks I’ve also performed the following maintenance work:
1- Tune-up
a. New plugs
b. Cap and rotor
c. Air filter
d. Oil change
2- Front brakes
a. New pads
b. Rotors resurfaced
3- Radiator hoses
4- Oil pan gasket (it had a pesky leak)
5- Front-end alignment
6- Tires rotated/balanced
For Christmas my beautiful bride bought me tunes for my ride! After all, what good is a nice truck without adequate sounds? So I have an Alpine CDE-175 BT Receiver with Alpine R-Series 5 ½” 3-way speakers in the front doors, and 5 x 8 R-Series 3-ways in the back panels. The head unit is bluetooth, has Sirius XM Tuner capability,… basically loaded.
Bottom line: It’s not perfect, but I’m not asking for “it’s perfect” money either. Those are running in the $17K to $25K range. But this Bronco is clean, in great running condition, and is a lot of fun to drive and be seen in.
What could it use? If I were to keep it, I would:
1- Replace the door panels (previous owner didn’t replace them correctly)
2- Look for F-250/F-350 seating to install to give it a true custom look, and new bigger center console
3- Custom exhaust system (maybe try Shelby headers?)
4- New lighting, but not the crazy stuff. Just cleaned up.
That’s about it, because doing more than that would be drawing away from the classic Bronco styling.
In a nutshell… if you want a clean, ready-to-roll Ford Bronco, that you would like some artistic license to make changes so that you can call it your own, then here you go. There is still room for improvement.
Best way to contact me is email or text. Fair warning: no low ballers. There are plenty of rust buckets around in the $7,000 range.
