Vehicle Description
96 All-Original Volkswagen GTI Mk. III, little over 200k miles. This car has not been f**ked with by some kid AT ALL.
Needs a clutch and input shaft bearing (look it up). I can do this work at buyer's expense. I put the last clutch in 100k miles ago, but the hills of Charlottesville finally killed it. The car still drives fine, just the clutch will slip a little at about 4000 rpm. Could probably go another year before replacing it.
Body is not perfect. Interior is actually nearly perfect. Undercarriage is a little rusty, but has a recent oil treatment.
I've owned this car happily for 12 years, and always done my own maintenance, very carefully and by the book (factory torque specs, etc.). At 200k, I installed a new head gasket, intake gasket, exhaust manifold gasket, timing belt, timing pulleys, timing cover, and I reset timing (it had jumped a tooth at some point). There are millions of other things I've done:
-New wheel bearings all around
-Recent brake job
-Recent parking break job (though cables do seize a little in cold weather)
-Replaced radiator after rear ending a guy
-Replaced AC condenser after rear ending a guy
-Hell, rebuilt whole front end of car after rear ending a guy
-New shifter linkage bushings
-Recent gear oil change in transaxle (tool included)
-New splash guard driver rear wheel
-New CV boot passenger side axle
-New ignition
-New distributor
-New plugs and wires
-New windshield
Uniroyal Tiger Paw tires are BRAND NEW.
AC was perfect until recently. Put new AC clutch bearing in and then the compressor failed. Needs a compressor. AC system is super tight. Had it tested.
Heater Core is clogged. Heat is minimal in the winter. I put a heater core in the car in 2010 (photos to prove it). Now it needs another one. This is a big job...
This car has never been abused. It has never done a burnout. It has never been redlined. I hate when people abuse machines. It was adult-owned and driven. It is not powerful. It is the slowest GTI ever made (115 hp). However, the motor is bullet proof and with the recent motor work, is the strongest asset the car has right now.
Call (six 0 six) 5 four 7 - 6 five 6 five to discuss. Make me an offer. Thanks!
