Vehicle Description
1998 Ford Contour SE - 2.5 Liter V6 Engine, 4 Door Sedan, Automatic Transmission, Power Locks, Windows and Side Mirrors, A/C, Sunroof, Rear Window Defroster, Custom Stereo, dark green exterior color, beige interior color, Alloy wheels.
The car has less than 124,000 Miles and I am the original owner. I have a full maintenance and repair record. Tires are in good condition, having been replaced late 2017 with less than 20,000 Miles on them. New Battery.
Custom Stereo includes a Kenwood Head unit (single CD/Radio/USB Auxiliary input), Nakamichi front speakers (midrange and tweeter separates), rear two way Clarion speaker plate, JBL 10 inch subwoofer in custom woofer box, Audio Control EQL equalizer, Rockford Fosgate XV-1 electronic crossover, Alphasonik A-240B Amp bridged to drive the subwoofer in mono, Soundstream MC140 4-channel Amp driving the other speakers. Unfortunately, the CD player is not operating (will not read a CD).
The car is in what I would consider “fair” shape due to some mechanical issues I will note below. There are no rust issues and the paint is original. It does have 22 years worth of nicks, dings and scratches. Other than what I will note below, all the accessories work.
The mechanical issues as follows;
• The Transmission may have an issue. I have not been able to replicate the problem when test driving but as my daughter described it, there may be a “sticky” or malfunctioning valve (or valves). The issue as described to me is it will seem to shift between gears at inappropriate times (sometimes repeatedly) and also sometimes stay in a lower gear long after it should have up-shifted.
• The Catalytic Converter needs replacing. Check Engine light is on and was diagnosed by a local Shop as the Converter.
• The Sunroof needs work. It will open but will not close on its own without some “help”. From the sound it makes, I assume there is an issue with some of the gear teeth on the motor being broken or rounded off.
• The cruise control cable that connects to the Throttle linkage needs to be replaced as it is binding. It is currently disconnected and stowed so as not to interfere with the actual Throttle response.
• The Trunk will only open with the Key. Neither the remote button on the Key FOB or the manual lever inside the car will open it. I believe the cable that connects the manual lever to the Trunk latch is either broken or “stretched” to the point it no longer releases the latch. I am not sure why the Key FOB doesn’t work but could be related to the cable.
• The headliner above the passenger seat is also beginning to come loose.
My daughter bought a new car so I no longer need the car so I do not want to deal with having it repaired.
Attached are a few pictures. Asking $800 OBO.
