Vehicle Description
Time to sell my old Suburban. I have done a lot of work to it and it was running great until the motor stopped suddenly while driving up 99. I think it is a broken crank but the block and heads might be good since they are 2007 Navistar (International Harvester) cast. History on work done and parts added:
Got truck with about 230K miles on it. Installed Duramax fan, new fan clutch, Diamond Eye 4in exhaust, PMD cooler, backup camera, injectors, gauges (boost, exhaust temp, and transmission temp), Heath Diesel Tune, Heath Diesel Turbo Master, vacuum pump delete, power heated tow mirrors, transfer case fixed with new half housing and oil pump anti-wear kit installed. Ran good until 242K when original motor cracked #8 cylinder.
Installed a used Humvee motor from Teds Trucks. When I did that I installed a new radiator, motor mounts, hoses, belts, harmonic balancer, main pulley, water pump, ect.
Last year installed new Hydroboost, 4x4 computer, 4x4 shift motor, and Kenwood DVD stereo in spring. Last fall before hunting season new Continental Terrain Contact Tires with 60K mile warranty, used rims, new Bosch Duraterm glow plugs, and two new AGM batteries.
This spring started loosing coolant turned out to be head gaskets. Installed Fel-Pro head gaskets with ARP head studs, Gates HD belt and tensioner pulley. Ran good then started loosing a little coolant. I could not find leak and oil looked good and oil was not going up. I replaced the coolant cap and everything looked good. Then low coolant weeks later, than days later, then next day, I suspect the water pump cover has a leak plan to tear down on weekend. Then while driving to work lost power then engine came to abrupt stop. No cranking just a clunk of the starter trying to crank and now coolant in the crankcase and coolant tank is empty.
I checked the cylinders there is no water in them, I drained the water from the crankcase, and checked the front balancer. It will only wobble a bit back and forth but will not turn and feels like it is no longer connected. Best case pull the front differential, oil pan, crank, and water pump, check block for cracks, install new bearings, crank, harmonic ballancer, gaskets, ect and you're running, worse case replace motor. I was considering a 12v Cummins or gas swap.
As you will see in the pics everything else is in great shape and well maintained. The AC is good but the valve is leaking a bit was going to change it and top off the refrigerant when it stopped working. It has been leaking for about a year and still has not quit working. The transmission is solid, the steering is tight, it has limited-slip rear-end, skid plates, two grown men can sit in chairs on the roof platform, wired for Tekonsha brake controller, the DVD player is sweet! I planned on driving this for many more years, as you can tell from the 60K tires alone ($800), but I don't have the the time or desire to swap the motor again. So come haul it away it even has about 40 gallons of diesel in the tank! $2000 OBO.
