Used 1999 Eurovan Weekender Pop Top - cars & trucks - by owner - vehicle... for sale in San Rafael, CA

1999 Volkswagen Eurovan Weekender (Poptop) for sale. This was supposed to be our dream van to get away next spring/summer. I was laid off and then my company shut down. Financially we need to liquidate what is non essential right now. You will see from the list below that everything has been done to make this van as roadworthy as possible.

The van has 220K miles. At 202K miles $21,000 was spent to completely overhaul the van. At 219K miles another $1500. Last week we spent $6,800 on final items. A day after we got the van back I was told my company had shut down :(

At 202K miles ($21,000):
New engine: all new hoses, filters, serpentine belt, etc
Rebuilt Transmission
Steering
Brakes
Bilstein shocks
New tires (Michelin 4X4 Agilis)
New pop up struts
New main and aux batteries
New Oil cooler
New Radiator
Lots of misc replacements while the engine and transmission were pulled. Might as well change everything at one time!

At 219K miles ($1,500):
New steering rack and tie rods and alignment

At 220K miles (last week - $6,800)
New heater core and baffles
Fixed small oil leak
All new injectors (there was one misfiring, but if you fix one, you might as well fix them all)
Adjusted downpipe
New radiator (old one was leaking due to impact from road debris)
Transmission service
New thermostat housing

So out of pocket for repairs/maintenance in the past two years is a total of $30,000.

I was also in the process of a couple projects and will pass on the materials that cost me $1256.

So essentially almost every mechanical component of this van is new within the past 20K miles. We wanted to make sure the van was as reliable and safe as possible when we hit the road. Is this van in a “new” condition, absolutely not. It is 20 years old. There are some blemishes, dents, scratches, etc. Will this van run strong as a daily driver or a road tripping vehicle, absolutely!

Pricing this has been so difficult. We want to sell it, but also at a certain point it is taking too big of a loss and we will tighten our belts and make it work. We also appreciate that we can’t recoup every dollar we have put into the van. But this vehicle is so ready to hit the road with low future maintenance. Essentially you know what you are getting with this van both cosmetically and mechanically.

$27,500 for the van feels right to us. It’s essentially all the new mechanicals we have put into the van in the past two years. We won’t get what we paid originally for the van back, but that’s life during Covid I guess.
