Vehicle Description
Selling my beloved car and switching to bicycles as transportation in the interest of sustainability. This is an E46 BMW, the last generation with predominantly mechanical rather than electronic systems--meaning better reliability and cheaper parts. I've maintained the car fairly meticulously at CDI in Victor, who have serviced it over its entire life. At a recent tuneup at CDI, Scott (the service manager) remarked that everything is solid underneath.
This car has the M54 inline six-cylinder, 3.0-litre, naturally aspirated engine. Peppy and torquey without having to worry about a turbo. Always fueled with 93 octane gasoline and BMW 5w-30 oil changes every 3,000-5,000 miles. I have never had a single issue with the engine, and as long as the oil is maintained, they will outlast anything. All the work I've had done has been outside the engine. I have loved this car and hate to part, but I live too close to work to justify using the fossil fuels and creating emissions for such a short trip. NYS Inspection completed October 2019. Open to all cash offers. For the right offer, I'll have a full interior detailing by Delta Sonic before pickup. Bonus: it's cheap to insure.
THE NEW:
Tires--Front and Rear in October 2019
Brake Pads and Rotors--Front and Rear in 2019
Rear Coil Springs--2019
Rear Shock Absorbers--2019
Front Control Arms--Left in 2017, Right in 2019
Thermostat and Water Pump--2017
Front CV boots--Left in 2015, Right in 2019
Alloy wheels--Front in 2018, Rear in 2019
Known rust trouble spots addressed and reinforced August 2019 by Saxby's in East Bloomfield (the same body shop CDI uses)
THE COOL:
All-time intelligent all wheel drive
Automatic and auto-leveling Xenon headlights
Rain-speed sensing windshield wipers
Automatic one-touch up and down windows in front and back
3-user memory front seat settings
Heated front seats
Auto-tilting passenger side mirror when in reverse (to better see lines, curbs, etc.)
Auto-dimming interior rear-view mirror
1/3-2/3 folding rear seats for luggage pass-through; waterproof ski bag included
GPS Navigation and infotainment, including a hidden cassette player!
Sunroof with vent and open positions, absolutely no leaks
OEM BMW fitted rubber floor mats for the front
THE GOOD:
All leather and wood trim is in excellent condition--no scratches, creasing, rips, or tears
Leather-wrapped steering wheel
Neat wheels
Headliner in as-new condition, no sagging or peeling
Airbag recall/replacement completed in 2018
Bone stock--no cosmetic, mechanical, or electronic modifications
Spare wheel (donut) included
BMW tool kit, first aid kit, and roadside safety kit all included
THE BAD/THE UGLY
Coolant level sensor trouble leaves the "add coolant" light on the dash. There are no problems with the cooling system itself, just the sensor. CDI Service department suggests it's buried too deep to be worth fixing (the labor to disassemble/reassemble things in order to access it outweigh the value of the information it provides). Thermostat/engine temperature gauge work perfectly, never any overheating.
Tire Pressure Monitor System sometimes thinks pressures are low when they are not.
BMW badge on the hood worn away somewhat.
As long as you are reasonably consistent with safety items on a car, this thing is a dream.
