Vehicle Description
After many years of adventures, we are ready to sell our 2003 Eurovan. This is an amazing vehicle. Use it as a daily driver (drives and feels like any other minivan, seats 7), a beach wagon (throw your surf gear in the back and go), a scenic drive through the mountains (all the windows are HUGE giving awesome visibility), cargo hauler (this thing can hold full 4’x8’ plywood sheets!), and of course, as a camper! We’ve done it all. Recently took a 3 week family trip all the way to Banff Canada and back!
This is the highly sought-after weekender version with a strong V6 engine, pop top, rear facing conversation seats, pop up table, fold out queen bed, privacy drapes all around, secondary battery under driver seat, food cooler under passenger seat, full bug screen (we have the original screen and it is in perfect condition) and more. We’ve done a few after market upgrades like the stereo, custom carpet/mats, heavy duty rubber mat for the back storage area, tinted windows, a bed extender for the pop top, a custom shelf (removes in seconds if you don’t like it), emergency kit, and tow hitch with electric hookup. Sale INCLUDES a power inverter (for your laptops and stuff!) and my custom-built cargo carrier box (cost me $500, has full lighting system and can carry a TON of extra stuff on your camping trips, see pictures).
This is the 2003 model, the last year they were made, and is the popular silver color. We have owned the van since 2016. The only issue we’ve ever had was the carbon canister for the emission system…apparently if the canister becomes saturated by overfilling the gas tank too often it can cause the van to stall when idling, which is what was happening to us. We had the canister replaced a few years ago for a couple hundred dollars and have not had an issue since. Other than that, the van has not given us any mechanical troubles. It has been awesome. Just the regular maintenance like oil changes, etc. AC works great. Tires were replaced a couple thousand miles ago so are near new. We just re-registered the van last month so smog/emissions are good to go for another two years in California.
This is actually our second Eurovan (we had a 1993 model before we upgraded to this one). This has been a fun investment for our family. The kids are older now and it’s time to upgrade again…we just bought a new Promaster to do a camper conversion which is why we are selling the Eurovan.
Please keep in mind this vehicle is almost 20 years old. For its age, it really is in great condition, and we’ve treated it well as we intended to hold onto it for a long time. But like any older vehicle, it isn’t perfect. To avoid wasting any of your time or mine, here is a full list of any and all issues that I am aware of, no matter how minor:
-Slight dents and dings on the exterior. In 20 years, these things happen. They are all minor, have not broken through to the metal and there is no rust. Honestly, they are hard to even notice.
-Compressor for cooler under seat does not work. It wasn’t working when we bought the van. We still use it for storage, and if we need to keep food cool, we just use ice.
-The check engine light turns on then off every once in awhile. It has done this since we bought it. It used to concern us but when we’ve had it looked at the error codes have to do with the emissions system…we had the O2 sensors replaced at one point and that seemed to work for awhile but then the light came back on. After researching on the internet, this is apparently a common issue for Eurovans as the manufacturer (VW) has to modify their European emission systems to meet US requirements when importing vehicles into the US. I don’t know. At some point, I just stopped worrying about it since the vehicle operates normally and passes emissions tests.
-A few small rips and tears on the interior. Nothing big or noticeable.
-Driver door latch sometimes catches when opening.
-The hardware on one of the sliding windows isn’t working, so you have to operate the window manually. If it bothers you, I think a replacement part costs around $50.
-Some of the plastic tabs that hold the cargo covers in place under the bench seat have broken off so the covers don’t “snap” on super tight. They still work, they are just a little loose.
-The clear coat on the top of the pop top is getting thin, consistent with its age. You can’t really see it since it’s on the top of the vehicle though.
Overall, I consider our van to be in great condition for its age. Look closely at other Eurovans for sale and you’ll see they all have their imperfections. We just detailed the van so it’s clean and ready to go to a new owner. No accidents. Clean title. Serious buyers only, please.
