Vehicle Description
2004 Porsche Cayenne S w/ 168k miles. 4.5L V8 w/ 340 hp, non-turbo. Runs and drives well but read the entire posting to understand what needs to be fixed. Clean title. The price is $5k OBO. Well below market value since there are repairs that should be completed (see below).
Cash or cashier’s check only. Local sales only – I will not ship the car.
Originally owned by my mother then given to me after she purchased a new car. Was going to fix everything but no longer have time for it. Selling to buy my son a more practical car since he just got his license. The vehicle runs and drives well but can idle rough sometimes when at a stop light. We use it as a grocery-getter and for trips to Home Depot.
The body of the car is great for a 2004. The paint is still shiny, although the silver trim and rear Cayenne S emblem show fading. A/C blows cold air. Interior is decent but stained in some places. Leather has normal wear but still looks good. Still have the original 2 keys and manual.
Here’s what’s new/newish:
• Newer Bridgestone tires. About a year old, but we’ve only driven about 1,200 miles this year.
• Oil changed
• Air filters
• Installed an Optima Yellow Top battery, and still have the previous Porsche one
• Replaced rear hatch hydraulic shocks so the trunk stays open
• New camshaft position sensor (bank 2)
• New transfer case and motor
• All recalls done
Other stuff done in the last few years (almost all at Porsche):
• Replaced vacuum vent line
• Replaced fuel rail
• Replace brake fluid
• Alignment
• Starter
• Intake gaskets
• Cardan shaft
• Power steering pump (done at a local repair shop I go to)
What needs to be fixed:
• Check engine light: P0016
- Replaced the cam position sensor but it didn’t solve it. Next steps are to clean or replace the camshaft timing solenoid (right side). If that doesn’t work, then need to look into tightening the timing chain, retime, or replace if it’s too stretched. As stated earlier, it idles rough sometimes at stoplights, but drives well overall.
- I have not checked to see what the deviation angles are
• Tags are expired due to check engine light. Wouldn’t be a problem if you live in a city/town that doesn’t do emissions testing
• Needs hydraulic shocks replaced for the rear glass
• Gets stuck in 4X4 mode if you switch it
- Tried replacing the battery and the transfer case, but it still gets stuck. I had to take a breaker bar to rotate the case back to the normal drive mode
- All I get for a code is just transfer box switching error and servo motor temperature sensor
• Need new vent actuators for the front center vents. Makes a clicking sound and doesn’t blow air. Air blows on the sides by the doors though and works well
• Rear right window switch needs to be replaced
- I have the switch (bought a black one though), just haven’t had a chance to replace. Pulled the fuse so the kids would stop rolling down the window since it wouldn’t roll up again.
• Porsche says the door lock actuators need to be replaced on the front left and both rear passenger doors, but I haven’t seen any issues with it.
• LED panel in the center of the tach fades after driving a while. When you first start up the car, it looks fine. I haven’t had a chance to look into it
