Ok, before I get into the details of the car, you should know that this a build done by S4play aka Rick (on the S2KI enthusiasts forum). Rick was an enthusiast’s enthusiast. He has done 5 of these s2000 builds and he was meticulous regarding the work as well as detailing it in build threads. This is way more detailed than having paperwork, this is watching your baby being born by someone who loves these cars and loves what they are doing. I found his for sale thread where he sold it for close to 30k but noted he had 20k invested into it which is not hard to believe once you go through each thread and see how detailed his work was and how many hours he put into it. The Comptech supercharger makes up for a chunk of that which he had professionally installed at Comptech in Sacremento.
Send me an email or text and I'll send you the build threads for the car (there are about 5 of them).
Before we get to the details, I had this car originally priced for 23,890 without the brakes being redone. I went ahead and got the brakes done and didn't change the price of the car. I'm getting a lot of calls from younger guys who can't afford that so here is what I'm doing now. The car's non-negotiable price is 20,890 without the brand new sub and amp. I can use those components in my other car but if you want those included, add $700 to the price. If you want to call me to negotiate below 20,890, please don't.
- Supercharged : The car has the full bolt on comptech supercharger kit specifically made for the S2000 which was installed by Comptech (it was roughly an 8,500 upgrade). This includes upgraded fuel injectors, fuel pump, fuel lines, Comptech's tune and more. The car has the same high revving character as before but with a lot more power and torque everywhere. The kit added 90 to 100hp at the wheel so this car roughly puts out 340hp. Comptech specifically designs aftermarket equipment for Honda, and if you don’t know, supercharging is a reliable and simple way of adding power to a car. Much less complicated than adding a turbo charger which alters the driving character away from what Honda intended.
- The interior plastics and vinyl have been re-done in a high quality alcantara suede/leather material by a custom auto upholstery shop. The steering wheel, the dash, the center arm rest, the doors have all been done in alcantara with yellow stitching to match the exterior of the car. This is the same material that high end cars such as Ferrari, Lamborghini, and Porsche come with.
- The stereo: This mod was done by the original owner but I had it re-done by a professional car stereo shop in Denver (Car Toys). This past August I had the head unit changed to an Alpine touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple Car Play. The speakers are hand built French Focals with their own Alpine amp driving them. The car also has a JL Audio amp and JL Audio sub with a sub box custom made for the s2000 so it integrates nicely into the trunk (not just a big square box taking up trunk space). The trunk lid has been lined with the sound deadening material Dynomate so you don’t get that cheap sounding rattle from the trunk when the sub is going. Finally, my older JL Audio W6 sub was starting to wear out so I had a brand new and improved unit put this past August along with the new head unit. This is a phenomenal sub, it was meant to fit into much larger suv's but I went with it here so there would be no problems listening to music with the top down. (What you see in the pic is my old sub being pulled.)
- Suspension: the car is fitted with Tein Flex coilovers. For those who don’t know, these coil overs are much more sophisticated and expensive suspension than the standard springs and shocks the manufacturer puts on. Tein is a well known German manufacturer of these. The suspension is height and firmness adjustable (you can even get an electronic remote from Tein that allows you to adjust the firmness while sitting in the car).
- The clutch has been upgraded to handle the higher horsepower the car is making. I can look in my records but I don’t have the specifics of this upgrade. It feels pretty close to stock.
- Exhaust: The car has Comptech’s free flowing exhaust but I also have the stock exhaust if you want that instead.
The only blemish or work the car needs is in 3 areas:
a) 1" crack in the rear plastic bumper
b) the top is original and soft tops last about 8 years (I almost never drive it with the top up since it's a 3rd car for me). The top is not horrible or anything but its not great. It doesn't match the prestine character of the rest of the car.
c) It needed brakes but just had them done at the dealer
The car drives beautifully, sounds great and is in near perfect condition. If Honda had made a Type R version of the S2000, this would be it. It’s just like a regular S2000 but more power and more torque everywhere. The car is incredibly tight, settled and responsive on the road. 2005 was the last year of the fully analogue S2000's meaning it has a hydraulic steering rack and a mechanical throttle cable. S2000's built after 05 had an electric steering rack and a computerized throttle system which don't have the feel or instant response of the mechanical systems.
I was going to keep this car forever as evidenced by the fact that I was upgrading the stereo equipment this week. The only reason I’m selling it is because of the new C8 Corvette that I just put an order in for. It looks like it won’t be here until March of 2020 so I’m in no rush to sell.
The other thing to know about these cars is that they are not dropping in price anymore. You can literally buy this S2000, put 25k miles on it and sell it for the same price or just slightly lower. If you don't like the modifications, you could always have the supercharger taken off and sell it online for 3k and have the doors inserts, dash and steering replaced with the stock parts off of Craigslist for cheap. I don't know why you would but you could do that.
As a point of reference, I have a good friend who just purchased an 06 S2000 in LA from a dealer with slightly more miles and he paid 26k for his. This is a great deal on a lovingly built, well documented and maintained S2000. I mentioned this earlier but I'll say it again, I had this car originally priced for 23,890 without the brakes being redone. I went ahead and got the brakes done for $675 and didn't change the price of the car. I'm getting a lot of calls from younger guys who can't afford that so here is the deal: the car's non-negotiable price is 20,890 without the brand new sub and amp. I can use those components in my other car so if you want those included, add $700 to the price. It would cost you more to have those components installed but I made it optional to make the care more affordable.
Lastly, I and the car are in Austin, not Phoenix. It's a relatively cheap plane ticket on Frontier or Spirit to Austin and a nice road trip back home. I do it all the time when I find the right car. I’m happy to have it checked out at the local Honda dealer if you like. Feel free to text or call me at show contact info .
And for the love of God, if you are a dealer, please don't contact me. I don't need help selling this car.
