Vehicle Description
My Kia-buddy stopped running.
I suspected the timing belt, which
I found was broken after I took off
the top half of the cover.
I’m looking for someone who
wants a possibly easy fix. But
I’m not sure it’s easy. The dealer
said it’s an interfering engine,
which means valve(s) may have
hit a piston. Or sometimes they don’t.
Previous owner said dealer
replaced engine at 120k.
Should be easy to verify.
I bought at 152k in 2017.
It’s got about 200k on it now,
so 75k on a new engine.
I have an inspection camera
(5 mm size on flex shaft).
I took pics of 2 cylinders, and
didn’t see evidence of damage.
But I’m no expert.
I propose we look at the cylinders
together. Take pics, maybe do
compression tests?
If no damage, I’d ask $900-ish.
If damage, then more like
$6-700. I don’t know what’s fair.
Engines still $200 at Pick-a-Part?
Heads are $75?
If it just needs timing belt,
I would pay you $450 for the work, if afterward we verify smooth running.
So that’s 3 options.
-Buy if not damaged $900-ish.
-Buy w damage $6-700.
Depends on damage.
-Replace timing belt for $450.
(I will buy parts.)
Let me know what you think.
I’ve done t-belts on 3 other cars.
I had a garage, the time,
and the desire. Now I don’t have
the first 2.
I got 34 mpg hiway and low-mid
20s city last I checked. Corners
well, tires are decent, good
acceleration (before belt broke).
I took the battery out to use in
its replacement.
Let me know what you think!
