I bought this GX a little over 18 months ago. At the time it had just 89,000 miles on it. I immediately replaced all fluids and timing belt/water pump. My intent was to build a light expedition style vehicle that is great for daily driving and won't let you down if you want to take on the trails, on the beach or back-country camping etc. This is my second GX. I have owned four 4Runners and three Land Cruisers (Which a GX470 is a landcruiser Prado). I enjoy driving the GX both on road and on sand/dirt roads more than any of the others (3rd Generation 4Runner is a close second though).
-timing belt/waterpump @ 95k
-Replaced factory adjustable/airbag suspension with Bilstien 5100 shocks and Toytec long-travel springs.
-Removed the factory running boards, trimmed them slightly and replaced the aluminum structure to give a minimalist feel and greater clearance.
-Installed front mud flaps
-Cut front plastic bumper portion to give it slightly better approach angle.
-Installed Falken Wilderness AT 265/75/17
-Installed new headlight bodies
-Installed performance UCA
-OEM outer tie rod ends installed
-LED headlights and reverse lights
-LED entry lights
Comes with the GX but not installed:
-complete new OEM dash (the originals would develop cracks so factory replacements were manufactured with a better compound) $800 but often sold for more than $1,000.
-new ceiling mounted video monitor/player (original dealer installed DVD player stopped working. I pulled it but have yet to install new system) $100
-new custom made, leather, driver side seat cover to replace original that has a crack.
-new OEM lower control arm bushings
-new diff drop kit
Have for the GX but doesn't go with it at current price:
-(never installed) Dobinsons medium weight progressive suspension system (3in lift). That would cost an extra $1,000
More pictures will come as I get a chance to take them.
The GX is very similar to the: Landcruiser, Land Cruiser, 4Runner and pretty much share many of the important components.
Thanks for looking. Please email with any questions.
