Vehicle Description
2007 MINI Cooper S Convertible (R52) John Cooper Works (JCW). Red with tan/black interior. 6-speed manual. 27,000 miles. Premium, Sport, Cold, Convenience Packages along with the JCW Kit and Cordoba Beige Soft Leather. Car also has MINI dealer installed driving lights. The car comes with the original window sticker as well as the John Cooper Works MINI Cooper S Tuning Kit Certificate of Authenticity. Car also comes with the complete owner's manual along with two keys. I purchased the car in May of 2020 from Orlando MINI and had it shipped up here to Massachusetts. It only had 15,345 miles when I purchased it.
The factory installed JCW Kit was a whopping $6300 in 2007 and here's a nice little description from the interwebs as to what that got you over the base MINI Cooper S:
"The John Cooper Works package ratchets power up to 207 horsepower and 180 pounds-feet of torque from the regular supercharged S engine’s 168 and 162 respectively. In a car this small, that’s quite a lot of thrust, which makes the Mini Convertible even more deliriously fun. The added power simply explodes past 3000 rpm and is attained mostly by increasing the stock supercharger’s boost from 11.6 psi to 14.0, and upgrading the exhaust system to reduce back pressure. This equals an engine and exhaust that is far smoother and more free-flowing than the gruff and somewhat unrefined character of the regular Cooper S. This power is put to the pavement by the same wonderfully direct and mechanical 6-speed gearbox featured on the S. Upgraded sport brakes and a limited slip differential are also included in the JCW package."
For inquiring minds, the original window sticker price on this car was $37,150. From the clean CarFax (available upon request), first owner looks to have purchased it and stored it (just 21 miles) and then it went to owner #2 in 2012 where I assume it was a not a primary vehicle. Not that it matters, but the second owners were elderly.
I did a slew of maintenance when I got the car and includes the following:
* Replaced the passenger side motor mount (slight leak)
* Thermostat (leaking)
* Belt tensioner (piston leaking)
* Strut tops (mushroomed)
* Left and right lower control arm bushings (both were fine but the right showed some play so replaced both)
* Both front axles (passenger side slightly bent and driver side inner was damaged and causing a vibration under acceleration)
* 4 NOS OEM MINI Cooper R91 wheels (7JX17 ET:48). The original wheels were in great condition, though a couple weren't balancing perfectly and I'm a perfectionist so I replaced the set.
* Michelin CrossClimate all-weather tires installed at 25,324 miles. Don’t confuse all weather with all-season. These are rated for snow, which all-season are not. They’re fantastic tires.
All work was performed at MINI Peabody, Auto Engineering (Lexington), Direct Tire, German Performance Service (Boston; best MINI service in my opinion), and Hogan Tire. I have all the receipts from the work.
I think the car had been sitting for quite some time and I gather that's why some of the items needed to be replaced. It was a 13 year old car when I purchased it so age could certainly factor in. All this being said, the car is super solid and an absolute blast to drive.
Aside from the aforementioned repairs, I also had a trailer hitch installed (for my bike rack; preformed at Village European), Platypus license plate mount, some 25mm spacers (just like the flush look) and purchased MINI All Weather Motoring Mats.
I have a complete album of detailed photos and can send a link to those upon further request. The car is in excellent condition overall. I am assuming the previous owner always garaged this car, as do I. I am super OCD when it comes to the maintenance and detailing of my cars. For wear and tear, there is slight wear on the driver's side seat bolster (odd with such low mileage) and there is some discoloration in the carpet from original cloth floor mats that deteriorated.
This is a 5th MINI, my second R52, I had a non-JCW a few years ago, and I really love these cars (I've had 31 cars in my lifetime). Honestly, I'm actually looking to get another Mazda Miata (I've owned 5), specifically the pop-up headlight version I'd be willing to trade this for a very low mileage 1994-1997 Miata also.
A nearly identical car (JCW w/same mileage and options) recently sold on Bring a Trailer and it sold for $21K. Finally, the title is clean and I have it ready to transfer.
