Vehicle Description
7 passenger SUV
Luxury trim with sunroof and separate rear A/C and heat.
3.6L V6 (GM High Feature, variable valve timing for exhaust and intake).
5 speed automatic with all wheel drive
leather, heated seats
I like to rescue things, animals, boats, motorcycles and this forlorn XL7.
A local dealer had given up on this guy so I got it really cheap and I was pretty sure I could get it running without a huge investment ( i was mostly right). I usually fix up these outcasts and keep them but this one was purely to resurrect and pass on (and as loving and understanding as my wife is, 7 cars is too many).
So, I replaced:
1 head (right bank)
2 head gaskets
1 set of exhaust valves (left bank)
water pump
all timing components (chains, gears, tensioners)
power steering pump
accessory belt
EVAP purge valve
EVAP vent valve
1 TPMS sensor (great excuse to buy a fancy TPMS tool)
all gaskets and seals
Then there was the usual maintenance stuff, since I didn't have any records:
Engine oil and filter
front and rear diff oil
transmission fluid
flush and fill coolant
power steering fluid
I've been driving it to work for a couple weeks and it's been a comfy commuter, surprisingly nice ride for an suv.
