Vehicle Description
Hello, I lived in the mitten for a long time, would like to visit. I have a 2010 Toyota Prius I am aiming to sell in Michigan. Can meet in southern peninsula Michigan, can and will meet to show car in Marquette, or any place in the UP for that matter to show the car. Serious inquiries only - if I have a few serious buyers I may consider taking a trip to sell car. Currently it is located in south California. Good proof it is road worthy - likely would put some new rotors on it and fix a couple of the minor glitches posted here.
I would like to see this car get transferred into good hands since I've taken good care of it. This is a very good vehicle. I am the second owner. It has NO accidents on record.
MUST SEE - solid inside + out, priced to sell. Good tire tread, new batteries, clean title. Great stereo with aux in, bluetooth handsfree.
4 gauge, remote 12v, RJ11 remote knob wire + RCA's wired into stereo included - needs to be permanently installed under carpeting/side runners if desired to be kept.
Able to show and sell right away.
Car is located in Buellton (Hwy 246) area. Please email or call provided number to schedule a showing. Serious inquiries only please.
Purchased this Prius from a Dealer with a warranty in Missouri back in late 2017. It had a bad hybrid battery pack, and I tried to get dealer to fix their mistake/honor their warranty. About May this year I procured a 2015 Toyota OEM original hybrid battery from a salvage car in Minnesota. Being a 2015 it is the newest possible OEM pack w/NiMh modules + is 100% compatible with 2010 model. The mileage on the pack is technically unkown because the computer was destroyed in an accident which was completely benign to battery, but I estimate it to have between 15k miles and 30k on it. Toyota dealership mentioned they didn't have record of the donor car VIN# even being in for "first service", so I theorize it just got oil changes and was driven by a local commuter.
All in all the car runs like it's factory new besides some noises explained below.
The suspension is still solid and drives well, good shocks. The rear-right wheel bearing was replaced under warranty before I got the car, and the rest of the mechanical stuff is sound. You can load it down with many pounds and still get good gas economy.. some people tow small loads with their Prius, up to 1500 without mods. All Toyota recalls are done, I brought it in for a few. One noise car has is heat shield rattle on exhaust-this is totally fixable, quite common; comes loose from time to time.
The car is a fabulous runner. Over 30 thousand miles I have owned it, I never got let down by anything; the motor runs strong. I've taken it across the country more than once, wouldn't hesitate to again. Transmissions themselves are very cheap on this car from salvage; Less than $400 for a salvage transmission with about 20k miles. The transmission works fine, it doesn't need any parts.
Oil consumption is tolerable (1000 miles/quart or so). Most every 2010 Prius burns oil after 200k. Ran Restore 4 cylinder solution in the motor the last two oil changes and it made a significant difference, and on the next change I'd recommend doing it once more. The motor may be a little older but if you are in the market to buy a Toyota you know take proper care of it and it rarely fails. This engine just past 250k and burns less oil than others which have 200 and less.
I keep a closer eye on oil consumption on long trips, and haven't had an issue with this method. All proactive and preventative maintenance has been done on this car such as cleaning EGR pipe, intake manifold clean out, throttle body clean. This all could be performed again, though doesn't need to be for some time. Full set of Toyota OEM injectors installed last year. Never had a drivability mechanical flop or problem with the car, NO check engine lights. Engine does need regular maintenance coolant flush.
The tires are in good shape; driver front has a very small pinhole leak on sidewall. Tire holds air for a few days until it's flat enough it needs air, and I have been driving on it safely at speed. This tire is a Yokohama with good tread! It could get repaired, outside CA. The other 3 are new Arizonians.
Tread around the car is good and thick, just getting broken in. Spare is OK. I'll include a 12 volt air pump.
I don't have -regular- maintenance records but this car has had regular oil changes and has been looked after (meticulously). It has about 4000 miles left on this oil.
The transmission fluid was drain and filled at ~235k, has 30k more left before next drain/fill (dirty viscous fluid NEEDS to be changed out for healthy fluid, better Royal purple vs Toyota OEM "world fluid")
12 volt battery is NEW - Yellowtop Optima Gel battery. I purchased one in 2018, and one (1) month ago it had an issue so it got warrantied; this 12 volt battery has 2 years left on the warranty if I am not mistaken, through Autozone. It works flawlessly. Charge anything you want including run a laptop with the car off for a good amount of time (including quality double A.C. plug inverter)
Extras included:
-Compact tire inflator - plugs into cig outlet
-Extra cig outlet installed in rear of car that is always on
-Prolong smart hybrid battery AC grid charger with light bulb discharge kit and a full set of 6 light bulbs for completing the discharging and reconditioning process. This kit costs $500 retail and holds value in today's market; can re-sell via eBay or PriusChat forums for at least $400. This kit extends the life of the hybrid battery by giving it the maintenance cycle Toyota did not include in the creation of the car. 1- year lifespan on a properly maintained Hybrid battery pack (the battery in car is already new)
-Custom Reese Top rack bag+platform ($150 cost). This is a set of roof racks attached to top of the car. On top, there is a constructed wooden platform (flat) permanently encased inside a Reese weather resistant bag. The bag itself is a couple of years old. The racks are in good shape. There are pieces of rubber under the rack to keep car from getting scratched.
-Konnweii Bluetooth ODB scanner plug (best you can buy for the prius)
-10 inch tablet with same graphics chip thats in Tesla Model 3's. Dash mount, AC charging cable, keyboard dock and 400 (800 peak) watt power inverter that will allow you to get eyes into the computer system of the car realtime. Tablet has Torque Pro and Hybrid Assistant that works great with Konnweii adapter. One feature of this is it allows you to trigger the hybrid cooling fan whenever you want. Willing to teach potential buyers about some of the quirks of this vehicle and patiently show them how this software works. 20gb of diversely sourced music on tablet.
-I'll throw in a USB JS interface for the Prius. This interfaces with Toyota Techstream, which you can download nearly anywhere on the internet and configure it to talk to the car through a Windows laptop.
-Some extra fluids (oil stabilizer, Japan coolant, 5 quarts of oil)
-3 oil filters, 3 nylon replacement rings, and the aluminum oil filter wrench tool
-Extra cabin air filter replacement
INTERIOR: 7/10. Every insert is there that needs to be and works. 35% tint on front windows, 5% on rear, and proper windshield tint strip.
It is not perfect inside but also isn't terrible. The tint has a couple scratches, though looks great outside. Scratches on panels here and there and some staining, though nothing that couldn't be touched up to look almost new again.
EXTERIOR: 8/10. It's almost 10 years old but still looks great. A couple of dings that were on the car before me. A missing bit of material on left bumper top that appears it may have been an old fix up. I don't know what type of life the car had before me, but it stated 1 owner when I bought it which was a big win in my book. Exterior looks really good and car blends right into traffic. Cleans up fabulous with some clay, soap and wax.
other things not yet listed to fix:
-driver switch for rear right window doesn't roll down window (all 4 windows work)
-it does not leak, but rubber gasket that seals the hatch is just old and could use replacing. Under rubber, body seam needs to be minimally buffed/rattle can painted to remove rust that has not travelled anywhere else but its origin yet.
-The brakes work great, front rotors could use a preventative replacement (within 4-6 months of daily driving)
-Regular maintenance coolant flush needs to happen on engine soon
(EVERYTHING ON THIS CAR FUNCTIONS THAT I AM AWARE OF OTHER THAN LISTED ABOVE)
I have travelled everywhere from the East coast to the West coast in USA and everywhere in between with this car for 2 years and had no problems with it not getting me where I needed to go, while working out the bugs - now you get the benefit. There is no rust on this car. This Toyota has never seen a highly salty environment and the underside is very solid.
Gas Usage: 50mpg potential as is; this car WILL get you 50mpg or better. All how you drive it, with/without the roof rack installed on top, etc etc.
Roof rack takes some mileage off and if you want to race, that keeps the MPG's around 40. This is a surprisingly sporty FAST car when you need it to get out of its own way.
Included is the book on Hydrogen power via electrolysis. The Hydrogen On Demand kit is installed and operational, but needs a $20 part and some fine tuning. I can show you how this all works if interested.
MUST SEE! This is a great economy car that has been taken care of.
EXTRA (I have these on my hands and need to get rid of them; not part of asking price):
-Original Hybrid battery enclosure that car was purchased with; includes all the modules, relays, nuts, bolts, cooling fan etc.
-24 'eBay certified' modules for the hybrid battery pack that are unmatched and still in good condition (they ought to have minimum 4.5 aH each)(installed in aforementioned enclosure with 4 of the failed modules listed below).
-32 failed modules that could be used for a core exchange
Thanks for reading!
