Vehicle Description
WILLING TO TRADE FOR PRE-1994 FORD 7.3 DIESEL 4X4 5-Speed
For sale is my very unique 1999 Toyota 4runner SR5! This has been a labor of love for me and my Toyota expert Milo who runs the Toyota exclusive Insane Fabrication System shop in Naples, Florida. I purchased this 4runner from him who was selling it on behalf of his good friend who was moving abroad and could not take the truck due to limitations on vehicle age. This was 2 1/2 years ago and I had the dream of making a fully equipped work/pleasure truck that was not only capable but cool. This truck has been in Milo's hands or mine for the majority of its 20 year lifespan. I am a mechanic, as is my wife, and together we have all made many aesthetic and mechanic improvements and proactive repairs. This truck is not perfect and has had its fair share of off-road driving, but it also has been babied and treated with respect. The previous owner mostly used it as a daily driver and kept it in the garage as I have, EXCEPT over the last 6 months while living in a location without a garage- I do cover it with a full truck cover when it is not being used daily.
This truck just made the 2500 mile round trip from Florida to Arkansas while pulling a 4x8 trailer with no problems and ran like a dream. It averaged 15-17 MPG at 65 MPH along the way.
I have changed the oil every 5k miles with full synthetic amsoil or mobil 1 with the appropriate filter as well. I am strict on proactive maintenance as Milo and I both are in the aviation industry and thus look at maintenance through that scope. I have tons of receipts and a pretty good service record on this truck. This truck has been in Florida for the majority of it's life and has VERY LITTLE to NO RUST!

Please understand this truck is 20 years old, it is not perfect. It does have several flaws that I want to you be aware of:
1. It is our belief that the synchronizer ring for 1st gear is having issues in the transmission. It will occasionally not go directly into 1st gear from a full stop as easy as I would like but it always does shift without force. This is accomplished by shifting into another gear first then it easily changes into 1st gear. What is odd is that the truck never pops out of gear which is indicative of a sync ring failing.
2. Occasionally it has a long start from cold. This is an issue that has developed over the last few months that I can't figure out. Some have suggested that this just happens, others suggest cleaning and resealing the IAC, I dont know. I inevitably rebuilt the entire fuel/spark system from scratch this month in anticipation of the sale w/ new injectors, plugs, fuel pressure regulator, etc but it has not cleared up the issue. This only happens sometimes and not after being warm. We have ruled out the starter and low voltage on the battery with an alternator/starter/battery tester. My next step to figure out this issue would be to put in a new fuel pump. I did replace the fuel pump in 2018 but perhaps it was a lemon.
3. Sunroof works w/ new cables and motor and has been rebuilt from scratch, however, I personally do not open it regularly since it has been rebuilt because I do not want to risk it leaking. There are absolutely no leaks in it at this time.
Truck does have small dings and scratches and small areas of peeling paint on back liftgate - however it is not in bad enough condition to need a new paint job - great condition for the age. There are no major aesthetic flaws to the inside or outside of the truck.
