Vehicle Description
Here is a rare opportunity to own a piece of Corvette history, a 1990 Corvette ZR1 with a little over 30k miles. It is a two owner. I have owned it since 1997 and it has been garaged its entire life. There are no modifications. It was the fastest production car of its time with a top speed of 175 mph. Chevrolet made these special production cars from 1990 to 1995 with only a little over 6,900 made during the production years.
“Introduced in 1990, the Corvette ZR-1 represented the most sophisticated, highly developed variant of the successful C4 platform. General Motors had recently acquired Group Lotus, which included their sports car business, the highly respected Lotus Engineering section, and the legendary Formula 1 team. The Corvette division dreamed of turning the all-American sports car into a world-beating supercar, and with Lotus added to the GM fold, they now had the ideal partners to make their dream a reality. At the heart of the ZR-1 sat an entirely new V8 engine, dubbed LT5. About the only thing it had in common with the OHV L98 was its displacement - 5.7 liters or 350 cubic inches. Lotus engineers started with an aluminum alloy block and jettisoned the familiar pushrods in favor of double-overhead cams and 32 valves. It also boasted a sophisticated intake and engine management system and was rated for an impressive 375 horsepower at launch. Because of the engine's heavy use of aluminum, GM subcontracted assembly to Mercury Marine, and completed engines were shipped to Bowling Green, KY. The rest of the Corvette chassis was suitably upgraded to handle the new "King of the Hill" V8. Unique ZR-1 features included a ZF 6-speed manual gearbox, 17-inch wheels.”
“It's out of the park, over the center-field stands. The fans are chanting, "Chev-ee, Chev-ee, Chev-ee!" The new ZR-1 can provide the best driver in the world with all the slam-bam power that he could ask for, yet its personality and demeanor are such that drivers who are less than world-class—a group that, by our observation, includes a great many owners of high-performance cars—are remarkably well protected from themselves. The ZR-1 has the ability to take you from 0 to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds and from a stop to 100 in 10.4 seconds. We also recorded a 0-to-150-mph time of a tick under half a minute. Top speed, for the adventurous, is a sizzling 175 miles per hour. - Car & Driver
