Vehicle Description
Hey there!
At the end of my three month roadtrip through the US and Mexico, I’m selling my 1993 VW Eurovan CL with all the equipment necessary for immediately hitting the road. Here’s all the information I have on the condition of the vehicle and a list of items I’m selling it with:
Interior:
• I converted the Van myself and installed a plywood floor with cork insulation underneath, sealed holes of the seat screws with silicone
• Build an extendable sofa with a full size futon (enough space for me and my friend, slept well for the entire trip)
• Covered the side behind the bed with a plywood sheet and insulated with organic cellulose
• There are two shelves for books and kitchen utensils, 4 plastic boxes underneath the bed for cloths, shoes etc., a 48qt. Igloo cooler next to the bed, garbage can, curtains, and, most importantly, a windshield sun shade in Star Wars look
Extras:
• 15 cubic cargo carrier for the roof which is attached to the roof racks
• Huge tent that attaches to the back (fits 4-5 people)
• Rack carrier for 2 bicycles
• Yoga mattress
• Grill rack
• Fishing equipment (2 rods, bunch of different baits etc.)
• Some tools like screwdrivers
• 2 foldable camping chairs (one has an insulated pocket for a few cans!)
• Rain and ice proof cover for winter
• Spare diesel container
• Jump starter box with battery
• Wheel lock (in case you go for a multi-day hike)
Mechanical Stuff:
• I only had minor issues on the 10.000 miles roadtrip, that I will list below. Every mechanic that checked the Van told me it was in a great condition. However, I must say it’s an old car! Finding original parts can be difficult. One option is which ships tp the U.S. However, this can take several weeks which is annoying during a roadtrip. Another option are onlineshops like or that ship in shorter time.
• The previous owner replaced the exhaust and the break pads in 2021
• During my trip the power steering hose, the radiator, the cover of the break booster, and a plastic T that connects the coolant hoses were replaced
• The Van comes with 4 big and extensive car repair manuals for the model
• Things that don’t work but I didn’t find crucial: sprinkler for the windshield, display of gas tank (I did 450-500 miles with one load of 18gallons), the sliding door does not open from the outside, you can open it from the inside through the passenger seat, AC
• One drawback is that the actual mileage of the Van is not clear. The display shows 125.000 miles though the previous owner told me not to trust it. However, the engine is very strong. I did steep parkways such as the Blue Ridge Parkway in North Carolina (5500ft.) without any issues. Just keep in mind to support the breaks with the engine break system to not overheat them.
• The Van has a block heater which I never used because I was traveling in summer
• What I love about the Van is its low gas usage. I did 25-30mpg for most of the trip while driving around 70mph on the highways. This is almost twice as efficient as similar Ford or Chevi Vans and saves you a lot of money during the trip.
