Vehicle Description
When introduced by the Auburn Automobile Company over seventy years ago, the Cord was applauded for its innovative configuration with front-wheel drive and an independent front suspension. The Gordon Buehrig-designed Cord 810 featured a long, upright hood (nicknamed a “coffin nose”), a horizontal band of trim that concealed the door hinges and full-face wheel covers. The headlamps were concealed in the fenders and raised by a pair of small cranks, one at either end of the dashboard. All of these unique features ensured that the Cord remained distinctive, even with only a two-year production. This stunning Westchester Sedan sits on a 125-inch wheelbase with seven louvers on the wrap-around hood side panels. It was originally owned by E.L. Cord’s sister, Edna Cord, and is reported to be a very early original 1937 Cord 812 model with a matching numbers engine. With such low production and its avant-garde styling and design, this Cord is a unique and alluring collectible, as only about 1,800 were built in 1936 and 1937. On top of its value to collectors is the appeal to drivers; it runs smooth as silk, even at cruising speeds of 75-80 mph.
