Description:
The iconic M5 was Studebaker's first successful attempt at building a light-duty pickup. an attractive short-bed stepside model, The Studebaker’s styling with its tall shape, trim dimensions, simple ornamentation and nicely rounded fenders is particularly attractive.

First produced before World War II, the Studebaker pickup truck won fame during the war for its sturdy military service. This half-ton beautiful workhorse has only 33,605 miles on the odometer.

The previous single owner of this truck has had it over 60 years, back to the late 1950s and has titles and registration to the current day. It was passed on as inheritance to, us, his children.

Cosmetic

There are a few dings and dents, consistent with a well used truck. The original paint is faded and needs some restoration. Original gauges are not hooked up. It also has a custom canopy that comes with the truck!

Mechanical

The engine runs, but it does have a ping. It has been sitting for a year so our mechanic recommended that the gas be drained and some engine work done before running, so we currently do not drive it. Lights/Electrical: Headlights, tail lights, and brake lights are all working. This is a great opportunity to have a sweet original looking classic with modern drivetrain.

Even though Studebaker had its beginnings in the horse drawn carriage business, supplying customers with carriages to haul their belongings, Studebaker was very slow entering the motorized pickup market. In 1941, Studebaker introduced its M5 model, based on the popular Champion platform. The M5 was geared more for efficiency and sales. The front and rear fenders were interchangeable, the dash was from the Champion cars, the running boards were interchangeable from side to side etc.keeping the production cost at an all time low enabling Studebaker to actually compete with Ford, Chevy and Dodge. The M5's styling with its tall shape, swept back Vee windshield, trim dimensions, simple ornamentation and nicely rounded fenders is particularly attractive and certainly stands out amongst the more commonly seen Fords and Chevys.

The 1947 M5 pickup offered here is a wonderful example of a 60+ year ownership.
