Vehicle Description
STK 2533 1948 Studebaker Commander After various unsuccessful partnerships, the first Studebakers manufactured solely by the Studebaker Automobile Company were marketed in 1912. Over the next 50+ years, the company established a reputation for solid quality and reliability. This 1948 Studebaker Commander is basically an all-original sedan. The exterior was re-sprayed (2000) and the seats were reupholstered, but other than that, it's original. The current owner believes that the 33,700 miles showing on the odometer is the actual mileage. Unique styling, suicide rear doors, a windshield sun-visor, wide-white tires and a generous allotment of chrome allow this Studebaker stand out in the crowd. The paint is somewhat weathered, but the body is very solid. The nicely reupholstered tan cloth interior is in good condition. A classic '40s dashboard holds a full compliment of gauges and, along with the original radio (not working), looks just like it did in 1948. The Commander is powered by Studebaker's 245ci flathead six-cylinder rated at 102bhp. These long-stroke engines were well known for their durability and low-end torque. It is believed that this motor has never required a rebuild and runs nicely. Everything under the hood looks original and the factory 6-volt electrical system works fine. The Commander Six is backed by a 3-speed manual transmission with overdrive and four-wheel hydraulic drum brakes provide stopping power. This low-mileage Commander sedan is a solid example of the Studebaker breed. ALL VEHICLES SOLD "AS IS".
