Used 1951 Ford Custom for sale in Morgantown, PA
Vehicle Description
1951 Ford Custom Convertible
A barn find is a classic car, aircraft or motorcycle that has been rediscovered after being stored, often in derelict condition. The term comes from their tendency to be found in places such as barns, sheds, carports and outbuildings where they have been stored for many years. The term usually applies to vehicles that are rare and valuable, and which are consequently of great interest to collectors and enthusiasts despite their poor condition. In the past, barn-find vehicles were typically subjected to exhaustive restoration, to return them to a condition close to that when they were built. However, the current trend is to treat the cars more sympathetically, to avoid restoration that removes evidence of the car's history and to place greater value on any original features the car retains even if they're in poor condition. In some cases, intense restoration can actually lower a car's value.
The definition of Barn Find is here for consignment in this 51 Custom. In addition to a menagerie of boxes with various parts, there is the actual car which seemingly has undergone some restoration, but overall needs attention.
Exterior
Panels show a nice patina with the paint being dulled, and seemingly upon closer inspection plenty of filler used on the underside of some of these panels. All the chrome and brite work is there and shows rusting, denting, and loss of shine in areas, but it's there. A convertible top is a bit ragged, however framework appears stable.
Interior
All original and all rough (dirty) interior, will need restoration. Seats are useable, and appear original to this car, and are presented as a front split bench, and a rear bench with 2 tone vinyl. Carpeting is nonexistent, and above is the original dash which needs restoration, as does the original steering wheel.
Drivetrain
A V8 of unknown size with some new bolted on parts which include a distributor and wires, a new generator, new belts, new hoses, and possibly a rebuilt carburetor. The engine does run, a tad rough, but it could be old gas.
Undercarriage
Plenty of surface rust is there however any real rust through has been remediated. A test drive reveals the master cylinder needs attention.
Initially one may think that this car is a total loss, however, all is not lost, upon closer inspection with a mechanical once over, a sandabale primer, some block sanding, then a spray of fresh paint, and you will be able to go to cruise night, and certainly turn heads!
