Vehicle Description
Gateway Classic Cars Milwaukee is excited to present this 1951 Mercury Coupe. The Mercury eight was produced from 1939-1951 as a full-sized model. Spanning three generations which included many models including coupes, sedans, convertibles, and station wagons. The third generation (1949-1951) Mercury coupe is the most prized among car collectors. Lovingly the "lead Sled" and popular among hot rod circles. Known today for their chopped top, lowered stance, and custom paint schemes. This 1951 Mercury coupe is no exception with its unique blue paint and custom flames across the hood. An all-steel car that has a partially shaved roof, original rear wheel fender covers, frenched headlights and a period correct front grille. A Fat-man fabrications front end with custom springs and rebuilt rear leaf springs with lowering blocks are great additions to this Mercury's overall good looks. Under the hood is a 396ci Chevrolet stroker engine attached to a TH700R4 automatic transmission. All powered to the rear wheels through a 3.73 10 bolt posi rear end. Upgrades include MSD 6A ignition with RPM limiter, Sander long tube powder coated headers, 3" dual exhaust with glass packs, three-core aluminum radiator with both mechanical and electric fans, updated fuel tank with Holley high-output electric fuel pump, Painless fused wiring harness with fiberglass mesh loom converted to 12 volt, and power steering and power front disk brakes have been installed. The interior is fitted with a burgundy leather interior highlighting comfort features including "Vintage Air" air conditioning, and 12- volt gauges retrofitted into dash with original back plates and dial indicators from stock gauges. Automotive history will always hold a place in its heart for the 1951 Mercury Coupe. We all remember great movies such as Grease and American Graffiti which highlights the Mercury Eight as one of the coolest cars ever built. c
