STK 2506 1951 Mercury Sport Coupe The Mercury Eight was the first and only model produced by Mercury from 1939 through 1951. The first post-war model was introduced in 1949 with distinctive 'ponton' styling. This fully enclosed body appearance ended the monotony of warmed-over pre-war styles and sales figures for both Ford and Mercury broke records in 1949. During that era, and beyond, the stylish 'Lead Sled' Merc Eight has always been popular with customizers. Our 1951 Mercury Eight Coupe has been fully restored with many custom and mechanical upgrades. It received a stunning 2-stage coat of Raven Black (2011), accented with period-correct fender skirts, dual spotlights, power antenna and wide-whites. All of the chrome, and there is a lot of it, is in very good condition. The interior - including the headliner - has been nicely restored in two-tone gray vinyl. The dash is equipped with full factory instrumentation and the original radio, but there is also a hidden six-disc Panasonic AM/FM/CD stereo for your listening pleasure. Windows are tinted and climate control is managed by a professionally installed air-conditioning system. The handsome wheel in vintage '50s Merc style completes the package. Our Mercury is powered by a 255ci flathead V8 that was totally rebuilt in 2014. The intake was upgraded with an Edelbrock manifold and four-barrel carburetor. A new radiator with electric fan has also been installed. It is backed by a T-5 (Borg-Warner/TREMEC) 5-speed manual gearbox and 8" Ford differential. Steering is power assisted, large hydraulic drums manage braking and the electrics have been upgraded to a 12-volt system.
