Vehicle Description

This is a 1953 Allard K3 All-Weather 3-Seater Sports Car. Sydney Allard, in 1974, began the Allard Motor Company Ltd. just after the end of WWII. With a passion for motor sports, Mr. Allard, who was a gentleman racer himself, used his engineering skills to create vehicles that were first competition driven before turning his attention on wonderful touring vehicles. The result was the new Allard K3, follow-up model to the K1 and K2. The body and chassis were built in Britain before being shipped off to the United States where it would be fitted with the owner’s engine preference. The majority of K3 models were equipped with a Cadillac engine, while very few of the production of 61 examples had a Chrysler Hemi V8 installed. Road & Track tested the car in 1954 and gave it high marks for acceleration, handling (weight distribution was 50/50) and steering. For its day, the K3 was reasonably well finished and sold for a whopping $5,300 from 1953-1954. With a lightweight alloy body coupled with a semi-independent swing axle on the front and a de Dion-type rear axle suspension gave the car exceptional handling with a unique styling for the period. This example has its original Cadillac 351 motor installed as well as an updated Hydramatic 4-speed transmission. It has inboard brakes, with upgraded disc brakes installed in the front. Chassis #3169 This car was delivered new to Noel Kirk Motors in Los Angeles, CA on March 2, 1953. The paint and body work performed was to a high quality, but body panel fit isn’t perfect, and neither were they from the factory. Interior is excellent. Dash is trimmed in period fashion, correct Smiths gauges with the exception of an updated Volt gauge. The current owner purchased the car in 1988 before setting out for a long term restoration in the 1990’s. The car was completed in 2014 and the mileage set to zero at time of restoration. (Approx. 2800 miles on the restoration.) Tires are Excelsior Sport Radials. Tonneau cover made by Andy and Me of Monterey, CA. It's reported that the top has never been up. S/N 3169 was featured in The Great Book of Sports Cars by Batcherlor, Poole & Robson and published in 1988 by Portland House. It was a Best and Blessed award winner at the 2015 Carmel Mission Classic, Carmel CA during Monterey Car Week in August of 2015. A wonderful addition to your collection.
